The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gives Geralt more romantic options than most RPG games bother to attempt. There are 7 women he can pursue across the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. Two of them affect the ending. The other five are self-contained encounters that won't blow up your relationship with either main love interest. The catch? Romancing both Triss and Yennefer in the same playthrough locks you out of both. Every other combination is fair game.

What are all the romance options in The Witcher 3?

Here's a full overview before diving into the specifics:

Loading table...
warning
Pursuing both Triss and Yennefer as main romances in a single playthrough results in losing both. Every other secondary romance can be completed freely without affecting either relationship.

How to romance Triss Merigold

Triss Merigold is a sorceress and longtime ally of Geralt who becomes the emotional anchor of the Novigrad storyline. Her romance unfolds across two side quests that run parallel to the main story.

First, complete the main quest Count Reuven's Treasure, which unlocks the side quest A Matter of Life and Death. During this quest, Triss falls into Geralt's arms at a masquerade ball. When prompted, select [Kiss Triss] to move things forward.

The follow-up quest is Now or Never, where Triss prepares to leave Novigrad with the persecuted mages. Before she boards the ship, you need to pick both of these dialogue options in order:

  • Stay with me.
  • I love you.

If you skip either line or tell her to go, she leaves for Kovir and the romance ends there.

tip
Don't attempt the Yennefer romance after locking in Triss. The game tracks both, and choosing both main romances triggers a scene where they both walk away from Geralt permanently.

How to romance Yennefer of Vengerberg

Yennefer is Geralt's oldest and most complicated love interest, a powerful sorceress whose connection to him may or may not be the result of a djinn's wish. Her romance requires two quests in different parts of the game.

When you arrive in Skellige, start The King is Dead - Long Live the King. During the quest, Yennefer asks Geralt to think of the first thing that comes to mind. Choose: Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen. When you reach her room, select: Wouldn't mind watching...

Later, agree to help her with the side quest The Last Wish. At the end, when Geralt and Yennefer bind the djinn and break the spell, respond with: I still love you, too.

That final line is what seals the romance. Miss it and you've left things unresolved.

How to romance Keira Metz

Keira Metz is introduced early in Velen as a village witch with considerably more ambition than her surroundings suggest. Her romance is tied to a short quest chain that branches off the main story.

Complete Hunting a Witch and Wandering in the Dark, then accept Keira's invitation back to her home. From there, complete A Towerful of Mice and help her lift the curse on Fyke Isle. This unlocks Favor for a Friend.

During the dinner scene, when Keira asks about being friends with benefits, respond: Don't have to ask me twice. Use your Witcher Senses to find her afterward and the scene plays out.

tip
Keira's romance has no impact on the main ending and doesn't interfere with Triss or Yennefer. It's one of the easier secondary romances to pick up naturally while doing Velen quests.

How to romance Madame Sasha

Madame Sasha is a mystery wrapped in a Gwent deck. She appears during High Stakes, the Gwent tournament side quest held at the Passiflora in Novigrad. To trigger her romance, either beat her in a Gwent match or agree to help her when she proposes working together.

After the tournament, Sasha invites Geralt to dinner at the Kingfisher. Reply with: Invitation accepted. The romance follows from there, though the evening comes with a twist: Sasha turns out to be a Nilfgaardian spy.

How to romance Jutta an Dimun

Jutta an Dimun is a shield maiden from the Faroe Islands in Skellige who has set an unusual condition for marriage: defeat her in combat. Her quest, Iron Maiden, starts east of Harviken.

First, defeat Gundar and report back to Jutta. She'll then challenge you to a duel. Win the fight, and when she asks if you want mead together, reply: Gladly. Meet her at her home in Harviken to complete the romance.

Jutta is a one-time encounter with no quest prerequisites beyond starting Iron Maiden, making her one of the most straightforward secondary romances in the game.

How to romance Shani (Hearts of Stone)

Shani is a Redanian doctor who returns in the Hearts of Stone DLC after her role in the first Witcher game. She's reintroduced during Dead Man's Party, where Geralt investigates the Toad Prince in Oxenfurt.

After your conversation with Gaunter O'Dimm, don't leave. Instead, follow Shani to trigger the side quest A Midnight Clear. When you need to bring her a gift, collect the Rowan Branch and give it to her.

During your walk, pick these dialogue options:

  • I prefer you.
  • Better by a mile.
  • Kiss sure didn't sate me.

The romance ends with a tryst on a lake, and like the other secondary options, it has no effect on your standing with Triss or Yennefer.

How to romance Syanna (Blood and Wine)

Syanna is the long-lost sister of Duchess Anna Henrietta and the architect of the murders driving the Blood and Wine DLC's main plot. Her romance takes place deep inside the Beyond Hill and Dale... quest.

The quest becomes available during The Night of Long Fangs. When given the choice between finding Damien or Orianna, choose Damien to unlock Beyond Hill and Dale. Progress through the fairy-tale world until you defeat the Cloud Giant. Afterward, respond to Syanna with:

  • Useful how?
  • [Let her have her way with you.]
tip
Syanna's romance is entirely self-contained within Blood and Wine and doesn't carry any consequences for your main-game relationships.

Does romancing secondary characters affect the main ending?

No. The 5 secondary romances (Keira, Sasha, Jutta, Shani, and Syanna) can all be completed in any order without affecting Geralt's relationship with Triss or Yennefer. The only decision that matters for the ending is whether you commit to Triss, commit to Yennefer, or pursue both and end up with neither.

If you're working through the full game and want to keep all your options open, handle the secondary romances freely. Just don't tell both Triss and Yennefer that you love them.

For everything else Geralt needs to survive the journey, the Witcher 3 guide collection covers healing, combat, and more.
