The Inkpincer Scorpion is a mechanical World Boss hiding in the Hidden Mountain region of Where Winds Meet, and it fights nothing like the open-world encounters you have faced before. Its pincers start shielded, its arena cuts off most movement options, and one status effect — Greed — can quietly wreck your run if you ignore it. Get the mechanics right and it falls cleanly. Ignore them and you will spend twenty minutes chipping at a health bar that barely moves.

Where is the Inkpincer Scorpion in Hidden Mountain?

The boss is located in the Suixiang area of Hidden Mountain. You are not walking into an open field. Head to the cliffside overlooking Mohist City, glide across toward the mountaintop directly opposite the peddler, and look for a cave opening on that peak. Inside, you will find the Curious Mechanical Cauldron (also called the Mysterious Mechanical Cauldron on the interaction prompt). Activate it to load into the Hero's Tomb arena, and the Inkpincer Scorpion spawns as soon as the encounter begins.

What are the Inkpincer Scorpion's weaknesses?

The Inkpincer Scorpion has no elemental weakness, but it has two clear mechanical vulnerabilities you can exploit every fight.

First, its Qi takes no damage while the pincer shields are active, but those shields break significantly faster when you attack from behind. The game flags this explicitly as a Mechanism Weakness. Staying on its rear is not just safer, it is how you actually deal damage. Swinging at its front is close to wasted effort.

Second, its heavy slam attacks are deflectable, and a clean deflect on one of those moves breaks its stance and triggers a cinematic counter that removes a large chunk of health. A full clear typically chains three of these counters across the fight. That is where most of your damage comes from, not sustained combos.

Before entering the cauldron, your loadout matters. After testing combinations across multiple attempts, these are the arts that perform best against this specific boss.

Mystic ArtsBursting Nine, Flute of the Tides

Bursting Nine is particularly worth equipping before you walk in. At a specific point during the fight, a contextual action prompt appears on the boss. Activate Bursting Nine when it shows up to deal heavy damage and stagger the scorpion, opening an additional window to attack freely.

Flute of the Tides serves a different role. It can stagger the boss mid-attack during several of its offensive sequences, which interrupts its offense at moments where dodging alone would leave you with no safe counter window. If you want the full walkthrough on unlocking that skill, check out the Flute of the Tides quest guide.

Step 1: Break the pincer shields

The fight opens with shields covering the scorpion's pincers. Until those shields come down, its Qi takes no damage. Two methods break them.

  • Attack from behind to trigger the Mechanism Weakness and drain the shield gauge steadily
  • Deflect the Red Glint Attack to destroy the shields immediately

The Red Glint Attack appears at the end of a sequence of slam attacks. Deflect each slam in the sequence, and when the Red Glint comes, deflect that too. The shields shatter on contact. Once they are gone, the exposed Qi staggers much more easily under sustained pressure.

Mid-fight, the scorpion curls up and re-shields itself. This is the moment to be aggressive. Push charged skills into it while it is balled up rather than backing off. When the guard breaks again, it staggers and you get another free damage window before it can retaliate.

Step 2: Save deflects for heavy slams only

Not every attack deserves a deflect. Tail sweeps, claw swipes, and glowing golden AOE slams are all better answered with movement. Deflecting those is risky and the reward is minimal. Save the deflect input for the heavy, clearly telegraphed wind-ups. A clean deflect on one of those rolls straight into a cinematic counter that does more damage than a full combo string.

After the counter animation ends, immediately reposition behind the scorpion to keep the Mechanism Weakness active and start the next damage cycle.

Step 3: Manage endurance carefully

Endurance is the quiet failure point in a long fight. Long attack strings combined with repeated dodges drain the bar fast, and running out at the wrong moment means eating a slam you could have avoided. Cut combos short by one or two hits rather than emptying the meter completely, and keep enough in reserve to dodge out of whatever follows.

Between shield phases, the reliable pattern is: dodge claw swipes, land skills when the scorpion commits to a long animation, and spend charged skills during stagger windows rather than into an intact shield.

Step 4: Avoid Greed accumulation

Certain Inkpincer Scorpion attacks inflict Greed, a stacking Mind Illness. This is easy to underestimate in the middle of a busy fight. Accumulated Greed cannot be cleared mid-combat — you need to visit a doctor afterward. Avoid these attacks whenever possible rather than tanking through them.

What rewards does the Inkpincer Scorpion drop?

RewardAmount
Inner Way Note Custom Chestx5
Medicinal Talesx3

Hidden Mountain Explorationx50
Character EXPx12,000

On a Legend difficulty clear, additional drops include a Hidden Mountain Key and an Inner Way None-Custom Chest. The Inked in Eternity achievement also unlocks on the killing blow, alongside an Ingenuity at Rest banner on screen.

What Mystic Skill counters the poison spray?

The arena flags a Mystic Skill Counter before the fight starts. Nine-arrow Formation is the scripted counter for the scorpion's poison spray attack. Slot it if you have it available. The poison spray is an awkward move to walk out of inside a closed arena, and having a direct answer to it removes one of the more punishing situations in the fight.
