WoW Forever Dire Maul North is the Gordok ogre wing of Dire Maul in Feralas: kill only King Gordok, spare every other named ogre, and the Gordok Tribute chest pays out the best loot in the wing plus three 2-hour buffs. You need a way through the Gordok Inner Door, one Frost Oil, one Thorium Widget, and the mats for a Gordok Ogre Suit. Skip the prep and you get a chest full of greens and a group chat full of blame.
Forever launches on November 4, 2026, and its beta stops at level 30, so no one has cleared this wing on the Forever client yet. This guide runs on Classic Anniversary data, because Blizzard kept the Dire Maul encounters, and flags every place where Forever already rewrote the rules. Wowhead links point to the Classic database until the Forever database fills in.
| What | Answer |
|---|---|
| Location | Feralas, inner courtyard of Dire Maul, northern door |
| Wing name | Gordok Commons (North) |
| Group size | 5 players |
| Level | Built for 60; one Forever tracker lists Dire Maul at 54–60, Blizzard has not confirmed tuning |
| Entry requirement | Crescent Key from Dire Maul East, 300 Pick Lock, or an engineer with charges |
| Named ogres | 7: Mol'dar, Kreeg, Fengus, Slip'kik, Kromcrush, Cho'Rush, King Gordok |
| Best reward | Gordok Tribute chest, King of the Gordok, three guard buffs, Unfinished Gordok Business |
Blizzard did not redesign the ogres. It redesigned everything around them, which is worse for anyone who memorized a 2019 spreadsheet. The changes below apply to all returning WoW Forever dungeons, this wing included.
The honest summary: same doors, same keys, same patrol paths, slower pulls, and stricter crowd control. Old strategies still win. They just punish you harder for forgetting them.
The WoW Forever Dire Maul entrance is the southern gate of the ruined compound in central Feralas. Horde groups fly to Camp Mojache and ride west until the High Wilderness road forks north. Alliance groups fly to Feathermoon Stronghold and ride east to the same fork.
| Point | Coordinates | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dire Maul compound gate | /way #Feralas 59 45 | Southern entrance into Eldreth Row |
| Camp Mojache (Horde hub) | around 76 44 | Closest Horde flight path |
| Feathermoon Stronghold (Alliance hub) | around 30 46 | Closest Alliance flight path, then the long ride east |
| Dire Maul North door | Inside the compound, north wall of the courtyard | No reliable world map pin exists for the inner door |
| Door | Normal key | Tribute alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Dire Maul North entrance | Crescent Key | 300 Pick Lock, Large Seaforium Charge, or Powerful Seaforium Charge |
| Gordok Courtyard Door | Gordok Courtyard Key from Fengus's Chest | Loot the chest while Fengus walks away |
| Gordok Inner Door | Gordok Inner Door Key from Guard Mol'dar | 300 Pick Lock, Powerful Seaforium Charge, or Truesilver Skeleton Key |
The wing tests three things: a door opener, a stable tank for knockbacks, and someone who can stop a two-headed ogre from casting. Any WoW Forever dungeon comp without a lockpick, a charge, or a skeleton key is a normal clear pretending to be a tribute.
| Role | Best picks | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin, Feral Druid | Warriors keep the gold standard; Forever gives Protection Paladins Seal of Fury as a taunt, and four-target Consecration fits the new three-to-four mob packs |
| Healer | Priest, Shaman, Paladin, Druid | Priests get Fear Ward baseline in the demo build; Shamans drop Tremor Totem against Psychic Scream and Intimidating Shout |
| Door opener | Rogue, Engineer, Blacksmith | A level 60 Rogue with 300 Pick Lock saves every charge in the run |
| Crowd control | Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Priest | Polymorph for ogres, Freezing Trap for Cho'Rush, Banish for Doomguard Minions, Mind Control for Gordok Brutes |
| Key runner | Rogue, Druid, Hunter | Stealth or Aspect of the Cheetah grabs the Courtyard Key while Fengus walks his loop |
| Run type | Tank | Healer | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic tribute | Protection Warrior | Priest | Rogue, Mage, Hunter |
| No Rogue tribute | Protection Paladin | Shaman | Engineer Warlock, Mage, Hunter |
| Boss farm clear | Protection Warrior | Priest | Mage, Warlock, Rogue |
| Forever Horde novelty | Undead Paladin | Troll Priest | Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Rogue |
Forever racials matter here. Undead Will of the Forsaken now breaks Fear instead of granting immunity, which still ruins Kromcrush's day. Dwarf Big Game Hunter adds 5% damage against Beasts, which means the Gordok Mastiff packs finally have a reason to die faster.
| Item | Amount | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Frost Oil | 1 | Repairing the Broken Trap for A Broken Trap |
| Thorium Widget | 1 | Same trap, same quest |
| Bolt of Runecloth | 4, or 2 for Tailors and Leatherworkers | The Gordok Ogre Suit |
| Rugged Leather | 8, or 4 for Tailors and Leatherworkers | The Gordok Ogre Suit |
| Rune Thread | 2 | The Gordok Ogre Suit |
| Ogre Tannin | 1, looted inside | From the Ogre Tannin Basket above Knot Thimblejack |
| Powerful Seaforium Charge or Truesilver Skeleton Key | 1 each door | Only if nobody has 300 Pick Lock |
Three routes exist. The WoW Forever Gordok Commons layout rewards whichever one you commit to and punishes groups that switch plans after pulling a guard.
| Route | Kills | Reward | Pace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tribute run | King Gordok only | Best chest, three buffs, Kreeg vendor, glove quest | Slow, surgical |
| Full clear | All seven named ogres | Every boss table, green chest | Slower, bloodier |
| Hybrid | Kromcrush and Cho'Rush plus King | Boss drops from two, worse chest, fewer buffs | Medium, greedy |
Cho'Rush becomes friendly the moment the King dies. Tank him, interrupt him, feed him a Felhunter with Curse of Tongues, but do not burn him.
Pull Guard Mol'dar to the entrance, clear left to Stomper Kreeg and Guard Fengus, loot the courtyard key, then follow the single corridor through Guard Slip'kik, Captain Kromcrush, and the throne room. Kill Cho'Rush the Observer before the King on this route, because he heals and nobody is getting a tribute anyway.
After the tribute, walk back through the tunnel behind Mol'dar's lower door into the Athenaeum of Dire Maul West. You keep King of the Gordok, kill Prince Tortheldrin, and loot the Gauntlet of Gordok Might from the chest behind him in the same lockout.

Forever trash lasts longer, so every ability below lasts longer too. Sort your kill order before the pull, not during the wipe.
| Mob | Abilities | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Gordok Brute | Uppercut knockback, stun, very heavy melee | Tank against a wall; a Priest can Mind Control one and use it as a second tank |
| Gordok Mage-Lord | Flamestrike, Frostbolt, Polymorph, Bloodlust on allies | Kill first or Polymorph; move out of Flamestrike |
| Gordok Mastiff | Hard melee, snare, long-range stealth detection | Drop stealth near them; AoE only after the tank has all of them |
| Carrion Swarmer | Stacking Venom Sting poison | Cleanse poison and AoE the pack at the ramp bottom |
| Gordok Reaver | Uppercut, Mortal Strike, Sunder Armor, Cleave | Face it away from melee and heal through the healing debuff |
| Gordok Warlock | Shadow Bolt, Immolate, Curse of Tongues, undispellable Banish, Demon Armor | CC the Warlock, kill its demon first, Purge Demon Armor |
| Doomguard Minion | Rain of Fire, Cripple, War Stomp | Kill immediately or Banish; healers stand clear of the stomp |
| Wandering Eye of Kilrogg | Summons two Netherwalkers | Ranged burst the moment it enters range; it has almost no health |
| Netherwalker | High health, area damage | Do not let it exist |
| Gordok Captain | Instant Shadow Bolt, Fear | Fear Ward or Tremor Totem the tank |
| Gordok Bushwhacker | Ambush spawn when the Tannin basket is opened | Expect it and tank it on the spot |
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Knock Away | Throws the tank backward into whatever you forgot to clear |
| Shield Bash | Interrupts casters standing inside 5 yards |
| Shield Charge | Charges a random player |
| Strike | Heavy melee hit on the tank |
| Enrage | Enrages around 40–50% and calls nearby mastiffs |
Pull him to the entrance, tank him against a wall, and keep ranged at max distance. Tribute groups skip him; normal groups kill him for the Gordok Inner Door Key.
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Booze Spit | Frontal cone that cuts hit chance by 75% and gets everyone drunk |
| War Stomp | Area stun around him |
| Whirlwind | Area melee damage |
| Drunken Rage | Frenzy at 50% health, extra tank damage |
| Enrage | More melee damage late in the fight |
Nobody stands in front, casters stay 8 yards out, and the healer saves mana for the 50% frenzy. On a tribute run he sleeps it off and later sells you Gordok Green Grog, Kreeg's Stout Beatdown, and a few Volatile Rum.
Same kit as Mol'dar: Knock Away, Shield Bash, Shield Charge, Strike, and Enrage. He patrols the courtyard platform and down the southern ramp, and his chest holds the Gordok Courtyard Key. Wait for the ramp, then steal.
Same guard kit again, patrolling the room with the Broken Trap. His pathing is erratic, so repair the trap only when he is fully out of sight. A frozen Slip'kik stays frozen for the rest of the run.
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mortal Cleave | Frontal cleave that reduces healing received |
| Intimidating Shout | Fears nearby players into the next pack |
| Retaliation | Counterattacks melee hits from the front |
| Call Reavers | Summons two Gordok Reavers around 50% health |
| Enrage | Raises damage when the adds arrive |
Everyone except the tank stands behind him, Fear Ward or Tremor Totem on the tank, CC one Reaver and off-tank the other. Tribute groups skip the fight with the Gordok Ogre Suit; he later offers Unfinished Gordok Business.
The WoW Forever King Gordok fight is a DPS race with a babysitter. Cho'Rush picks Priest, Shaman, or Mage behavior when he spawns, so check his first cast and adapt.
| Boss | Ability | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| King Gordok | Berserker Charge | Charges a player who is not tanking, then returns |
| King Gordok | Mortal Strike | Big hit with a healing reduction |
| King Gordok | Sunder Armor | Stacking armor loss on the tank |
| King Gordok | War Stomp | Area stun around the King |
| Cho'Rush (Priest) | Heal | Heals the King; interrupt every cast |
| Cho'Rush (Priest) | Power Word: Shield | Shields an ogre and blocks interrupts |
| Cho'Rush (Priest) | Mind Blast | Single-target Shadow damage |
| Cho'Rush (Priest) | Psychic Scream | Fears everyone within 8 yards |
| Cho'Rush (Shaman) | Healing Wave | Heals the King; interrupt first |
| Cho'Rush (Shaman) | Chain Lightning, Earthgrab Totem | Nature damage bouncing to two more targets and a root totem |
| Cho'Rush (Mage) | Fire spells, Counterspell | Can lock your healer out of casting |
Tank the King where his charge cannot drag him into the side packs. Assign one interrupter and one off-tank to Cho'Rush, or park a Felhunter on him with Curse of Tongues. He shrugs off most crowd control, but Freezing Trap buys a few opening seconds.
The WoW Forever tribute run pays in four currencies: the chest, the buffs, the vendor, and the quest. Everything requires King of the Gordok, which you keep only while you stay inside. Mizzle can crown alts who walk in afterward, so bring your friends and make them feel small.
| Source | Reward | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Guard Mol'dar | Mol'dar's Moxie | Stamina increased by 15% for 2 hours |
| Guard Fengus | Fengus' Ferocity | Attack Power increased by 200 for 2 hours |
| Guard Slip'kik | Slip'kik's Savvy | Spell critical strike chance increased by 3% for 2 hours |
| Stomper Kreeg | Vendor | Grog, stout, and limited rum |
| Captain Kromcrush | Unfinished Gordok Business | Pick one of Gordok's Gauntlets, Gordok's Gloves, Gordok's Handguards, or Gordok's Handwraps |
All three guard buffs drop on death. Die in a battleground on the way to a raid and you have donated two hours of stats to nobody.
Item names below are Classic Anniversary data. Forever rebalanced dungeon rewards and itemization rules, so any WoW Forever pre-raid BiS list built from 2019 stats is fiction until launch. The tribute chest gives one item per spared boss, and killing guards drags it toward uncommon quality.
The Dire Maul North loot players will fight over first is the chest trinket and the King's caster pieces, because Forever made trinkets situational and pushed spell power onto healing gear.
Finishing Free Knot! with a Gordok Shackle Key leaves Knot Thimblejack's Cache behind. It usually holds crafting mats and a chance at one level 300 pattern. Forever already showed Hide of the Wild with reworked stats, so the Tribal Leatherworking roll just got interesting.
| Profession | Patterns |
|---|---|
| Tailoring | Pattern: Inferno Gloves, Pattern: Mooncloth Gloves, Pattern: Cloak of Warding, Pattern: Belt of the Archmage, Pattern: Felcloth Gloves |
| Leatherworking | Pattern: Girdle of Insight, Pattern: Mongoose Boots, Pattern: Swift Flight Bracers |
| Leatherworking specializations | Pattern: Chromatic Cloak, Pattern: Shifting Cloak, Pattern: Hide of the Wild |
| Quest | Start | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Broken Trap | Broken Trap | Frost Oil and Thorium Widget | A frozen Guard Slip'kik |
| The Gordok Ogre Suit | Knot Thimblejack | 8 Rugged Leather, 4 Bolt of Runecloth, 2 Rune Thread, 1 Ogre Tannin | Gordok Ogre Suit and goblin town reputation |
| Free Knot! | Knot Thimblejack | Gordok Shackle Key | Knot Thimblejack's Cache and Steamwheedle Cartel reputation |
| Unfinished Gordok Business | Captain Kromcrush | Ogre suit or King of the Gordok, then the Gauntlet from Dire Maul West | Choice of four class gloves |
With Forever quest experience raised and mob experience cut, doing all four on a level 58 character is worth more than three extra full clears.
Enemies across Dire Maul and every A Dusty Tome can drop class books. Turn them in at the Shen'dralar library for a class version of the Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas trinket. The same tomes can hold Nostro's Compendium of Dragon Slaying, the start of Quel'Serrar for tanks brave enough for Onyxia's Lair.
Dire Maul was Eldre'Thalas, a Highborne city built twelve thousand years ago to hide Queen Azshara's arcane secrets. The Great Sundering broke it, and three factions carved up the ruins: satyrs in the east, the Shen'dralar elves in the west, and the Gordunni ogres in the north.
Ogre succession is simple. Whoever kills the king becomes King Gordok. The current one was Ulrok, who talked a dozen of the tribe's strongest warriors into challenging the old king at the same time, then cut down the exhausted survivors. The ogres still whisper about the Day of Da Blood. His two-headed advisor Cho'Rush picked the winning side, which is why he apologizes the moment you replace his boss.
For World of Warcraft Forever, Dire Maul matters beyond loot. Forever is set after The Frozen Throne and before Molten Core, and the new Shen'dralas zone between Mulgore, Desolace, and Feralas follows Mordent Evenshade and the Shen'dralar, tying its story straight back to Eldre'Thalas and Prince Tortheldrin. Expect the west wing next door to stop being background noise.
Q: Do I need the Crescent Key for Dire Maul North in WoW Forever?
Classic data says yes, unless your group has a Rogue with 300 Pick Lock or an Engineer carrying Seaforium charges.
Q: Which bosses must stay alive for a full tribute?
Leave Mol'dar, Kreeg, Fengus, Slip'kik, Kromcrush, and Cho'Rush alive, then kill only King Gordok to earn the best chest.
Q: What do I need to bring for the tribute run?
Bring Frost Oil, a Thorium Widget, Rugged Leather, Runecloth bolts, and Rune Thread, plus a door opener.
Q: Can I test Dire Maul North in the Forever beta?
No. The Forever beta caps characters at level 30, so Dire Maul tuning stays unconfirmed until the November 4 launch.
Q: Is Dire Maul North worth farming for experience in Forever?
Not really. Forever cut dungeon mob experience and raised quest rewards, so run it for quests, loot, and buffs.
