The WoW Forever gorilla pet exists for one reason: Thunderstomp, an 8-yard nature damage slam that no other beast family can learn. Everything else about the family is deliberately unremarkable , damage modifier 1.02, health 1.04, armor 1.00, attack speed 2.0, diet of fruit and fungus. You bring a gorilla when you need to hold four things at once, and you accept that it will never top a damage meter.

If you read exactly one line of this, read this one. Tame an Un'Goro Thunderer at level 52 to 53, or U'cha at 55, both in Un'Goro Crater. They are the only two creatures in the world that teach Thunderstomp Rank 3. Miss them and your gorilla is a slow bear with worse armor. The rest of this World of Warcraft Forever hunter pet guide is the long, unforgiving version.

Every Tameable Gorilla and Where It Stands

Fifteen tameable gorillas. Three zones. No exceptions, no hidden fourth continent. The best gorilla tame in WoW Forever is whichever one teaches the rank you are missing, and after that it is purely a question of which skin you can stand looking at for sixty levels.

Tame Spots and Coordinates

Three pieces of ground matter. Everything else is a detour. All WoW Forever tame locations below are inherited from the Classic map, and Blizzard has confirmed that several existing zones are being overhauled without naming which ones , treat these coordinates as correct until a patch note says otherwise.

  • Mistvale Valley in southern Stranglethorn Vale sits around 31–38 by 62–72 and holds the entire grey and dark grey supply from level 32 upward.
  • The Spirit Den cave at the north end of that valley starts its path at roughly 34 by 64 and puts Witch Doctor Unbagwa at about 35 by 60, which is the only way to meet Konda.
  • Fungal Rock in north-eastern Un'Goro Crater covers roughly 63–70 by 14–20 and contains every gorilla worth owning at level 50 and above.
  • Jaguero Isle sits at about 37 by 79 off the southern cape and is the only home of the black Skymane skin.
  • The Groddoc apes of Feralas are the red skin alternative and the second source of Thunderstomp Rank 2 if Stranglethorn is a warzone on your realm.

Family Stats and Where Gorillas Actually Rank

Gorillas are classified as a defensive family, which is generous, because they have no armor bonus at all. Compared against the other WoW Forever hunter pet families they are a health pet with a token damage bump and a unique button.

FamilyDamageArmorHealthVerdict
Gorilla+2%+0%+4%Only family with Thunderstomp
Cat+10%+0%-2%Raw damage, dies to everything
Bear-9%+5%+8%Tankier, no area tools
Boar-10%+9%+4%Charge, eats anything
Crab-5%+13%-4%Highest armor, one ability
Crocolisk+0%+10%-5%Armor without utility
Bat+6%+0%+0%Screech, same diet as gorillas

Read that table honestly. A gorilla is not the tankiest pet, not the hardest hitting, and not the fastest. It is the only one that can hit five mobs at once, which is worth more than five percent of anything.

Pet Skills and Where to Farm Every Rank

Gorillas learn four active abilities, which is exactly the cap, so there is nothing to agonise over: Bite, Growl, Cower, and WoW Forever Thunderstomp. Growl and the passives come from a pet trainer. Bite and Thunderstomp come from taming a creature that already knows the rank, walking it into combat until the learned message fires, and then abandoning it.

AbilityPet LevelCostSource
Thunderstomp 13015 TPMistvale Gorilla or Jungle Thunderer
Thunderstomp 24020 TPElder Mistvale Gorilla or Groddoc Thunderer
Thunderstomp 35025 TPUn'Goro Thunderer or U'cha
Bite 74821 TPUhk'loc, or any level 48–55 teacher outside the family
Bite 85625 TPBloodaxe Worg in Lower Blackrock Spire
Growl 7600 TPPet trainer
Cower 65518 TPTaming a level 55 or higher teacher
Great Stamina 1060185 TPPet trainer
Natural Armor 1060150 TPPet trainer

Thunderstomp Rank 3 deals roughly 115 to 133 nature damage in an 8-yard radius. That is not a lot of damage. It is a lot of threat applied to everything standing near your pet, which is the entire point of the family.

Training Point Budget

Your total is pet level multiplied by loyalty level minus one. A level 60 gorilla at Best Friend has exactly 300 points and not one more. Anyone promising you a build with maximum Great Stamina and maximum Natural Armor is either lying or cannot add. Here is how the WoW Forever pet training points maths actually resolves.

  • Growl Rank 7 costs nothing and always goes in first.
  • Bite Rank 8 and Thunderstomp Rank 3 cost 25 each and leave you 250 points.
  • The survival build spends 185 on Great Stamina 10 and 50 on Natural Armor 6, leaving 15 for a low-rank Cower.
  • The balanced build spends 150 on Great Stamina 9 and 100 on Natural Armor 8 and ends on exactly zero.
  • Resistance ranks cost between 5 and 105 points each and should only be bought for one specific fight you have already wiped on.

Named Tames, Rares, and the Best-Looking Apes

There is exactly one genuinely special skin in the family and it belongs to a rare. Everything else is a colour preference dressed up as achievement. If you want a WoW Forever rare gorilla that people will actually stop and inspect, it is the white one.

NameWhat It IsWhy You Care
Uhk'locLevel 52 rare at Fungal RockThe only tameable white gorilla in the game
KurmokkLevel 42 rare patrolling Mistvale ValleyLowest level red skin, long spawn timer
U'chaLevel 55 named in Fungal RockHighest level gorilla, teaches Thunderstomp 3, target of The Mighty U'cha
KondaLevel 43, second wave of Stranglethorn FeverTameable only during the summon, so bring a free stable slot
Skymane GorillaLevel 50 on Jaguero IsleHighest level black skin, awkward to reach
King MuklaLevel 50–51 eliteUntameable, because elites always are, no matter what a forum says

Konda deserves a warning. It spawns between the Enraged Silverback wave and Mokk the Savage, it is hostile, and the witch doctor will be killed if you stop to channel a 20-second tame. You will either get the ape or the quest credit. Choose before you hand over the gorilla fang, not during.

Raid or PvP: What This Family Is Actually For

Nobody is bringing a gorilla to a 20-player raid as their primary pet. A wolf contributes to everyone else's damage and a gorilla contributes to its own. If you are building a WoW Forever Beast Mastery pet roster, the gorilla is your second or third stable slot, not your first.

  • Solo grinding is where the family earns its keep, because Thunderstomp holds three or four mobs while you reposition.
  • Five-player dungeons let a gorilla pick up loose adds that the tank has not reached yet.
  • Battlegrounds reward the area damage because it lands on anyone attempting to stealth or capture near your pet.
  • Duels are a losing proposition since a 2.0 attack speed pet gives casters all the time in the world.
  • Raids are the wrong venue entirely, and the honest answer is to stable the ape and summon something with a party buff.

One Forever-specific caveat: the Marksmanship tree now contains Lone Wolf, which grants a personal damage bonus for having no pet at all. If that talent survives beta tuning, the gorilla discussion becomes a Beast Mastery and Survival discussion only.

Feeding, Happiness, and Loyalty

Gorillas eat fruit and fungus. That is the whole menu. Feed Pet requires food within thirty levels of the pet, so the ladder of vendor fruit climbs in ten-level steps and you should always carry the highest tier you can buy.

FoodTierWhere
Shiny Red AppleLowestAny fruit vendor
Tel'Abim BananaSecondAny fruit vendor
Snapvine WatermelonThirdAny fruit vendor
Goldenbark AppleFourthAny fruit vendor
Moon Harvest PumpkinFifthAny fruit vendor
Deep Fried PlantainsHighestCapital city fruit vendors

Happiness has three states and they are not cosmetic. Unhappy deals 75% damage and bleeds loyalty. Content deals 100% and holds steady. Happy deals 125% and gains loyalty. Managing WoW Forever pet happiness and loyalty is therefore a 25% damage swing you control with a five-silver banana.

LoyaltyRankRequirement
1RebelliousStarting state after taming
2Unruly5% of your current level experience
3SubmissiveSame experience plus 30 minutes
4DependableSame experience plus 45 minutes
5FaithfulSame experience plus 60 minutes
6Best FriendSame experience plus 90 minutes

Loyalty only climbs while the pet is Happy and you are earning experience from mobs that are green or better. Standing in a capital city feeding it does nothing. Letting it die drops happiness hard and stalls the whole process. Use Revive Pet, then Call Pet, then feed it , in that order, every single time.

Lore, for the Three People Who Asked

Gorillas are herbivores that attack travellers anyway, which tells you most of what you need to know about their temperament. The Mistvale troop of southern Stranglethorn is led by Mokk the Savage, a white ape whose heart is considered a cure for a goblin disease. The Skymanes of Jaguero Isle answer to King Mukla, who keeps a tauren princess hostage and throws barrels, in case the reference was too subtle.

Un'Goro's apes were given an actual worldview. They eat the lashers, the dinosaurs eat them, and they consider this honourable. Their complaint is with hunters who take the skin and leave the body, which is precisely what The Apes of Un'Goro asks you to do. The same crater also hosts A-Me 01, a mechanical gorilla that narrates its own escort quest, and whose model remains the one gorilla skin hunters can never tame.

What Forever Changes, and What Nobody Knows Yet

Forever launches on 4 November 2026 with a permanent level 60 cap and content delivered by patch rather than expansion. Beta opened on 17 September 2026 and runs to 21 October. Hunters get reworked trees, baseline Aimed Shot, traps usable in combat, a melee Survival spec, Summon Hawk for Beast Mastery, and Human and Skyborne hunters.

  • Blizzard has not published any changes to pet families, taming, diets, loyalty, or stable slots as of beta launch.
  • Three new zones arrive as Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, and Riverglades , none of which have been shown to contain gorillas.
  • Several existing zones are confirmed as overhauled but not named, so Stranglethorn and Un'Goro tame routes are provisional.
  • Treat every number in this guide as Classic anniversary data until a Forever patch note contradicts it.

The safe read is that the old rules hold: old taming spots, old pet skills, old families. Forever is built on Classic and the pet system is the least glamorous thing in the codebase, which usually means it is the last thing anyone touches.

FAQ

What is the best gorilla tame in WoW Forever? Un'Goro Thunderer at level 52 to 53, because it teaches Thunderstomp Rank 3, the highest rank in the game.

Can a gorilla tank in WoW Forever? For solo play and five-player pulls yes, since Thunderstomp holds several targets, but the family has no armor bonus.

Where do I find Uhk'loc? Uhk'loc spawns around Fungal Rock in north-eastern Un'Goro Crater, is a long-timer rare, and is permanently camped on busy realms.

What do gorillas eat? Fruit and fungus only. Vendor fruit such as Tel'Abim Banana works, and food must sit within thirty levels of the pet.

Is a gorilla worth a raid slot? Rarely. A wolf gives the whole group Furious Howl, while a gorilla only contributes its own modest damage and stomps.
