This WoW Forever Barrens guide gives the short version first: The Barrens is the Horde core zone for levels 10 to 25, you arrive at 10 to 12, you base at the Crossroads (flight master at 51.5, 30.3), you leave at 20 to 22 for Stonetalon Mountains or Ashenvale, and you come back at 27 only for the Isha Awak finale and Mor'shan leftovers. The old hub order still wins. New content is welcome, a new route is not.

Why the old route survives in World of Warcraft Forever Barrens play is simple arithmetic. Forever keeps no level scaling, no flying, a level cap of 60, and a stated pacing target of 10 to 15 seconds per solo kill, so travel and kill time still decide everything. Crafted food now adds a small XP bonus, camping buffs last an hour, and unique dungeon boss items drop as blues. None of it shortens the Gold Road. You still walk it.

How to Get In: Roads, Flight Paths and Coordinates

Orcs and trolls cross from Durotar over the bridge at Far Watch Post. Tauren walk east out of Mulgore. Forsaken and anyone lost take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar and run west. The WoW Forever Crossroads flight path is the first thing to click, because every chain here ends with a run back to it.

Loading table...

Free flight paths come from breadcrumbs, so take them. Orcs and trolls get Meats to Orgrimmar from Zargh at 52.6, 29.8. Tauren get A Bundle of Hides from Jahan Hawkwing at 51.2, 29.1. Both chains end back at the Crossroads with the capital flight path learned.

Level Range: When to Come, When to Leave

The WoW Forever Horde leveling curve through this zone splits into four visits. Staying longer than planned costs more time than it saves, because gray quests pay almost nothing and the zone is huge.

Quest Hubs and Breadcrumbs: What Unlocks What

The Crossroads holds most givers, Ratchet holds the neutral goblin chains, Camp Taurajo holds the southern hunts. Breadcrumbs are short and free XP, so no route skips them.

Loading table...
  • Thork at 51.5, 30.9 gives the centaur disruption quests and the Mor'shan breadcrumb.
  • Tonga Runetotem at 52.3, 31.9 starts the oasis chain that ends in Wailing Caverns.
  • Sergra Darkthorn at 52.2, 31.0 runs the hunting chain that ends with Isha Awak near level 27.
  • Regthar Deathgate at 45.3, 28.4 sends you after Kolkar leaders and later Warlord Krom'zar.
  • Gazlowe at 62.7, 36.2 and Sputtervalve at 63.0, 37.2 hand out the Ratchet chains.
  • Jorn Skyseer at 44.9, 59.1 and Mangletooth at 44.6, 59.3 anchor Camp Taurajo.

Mankrik at 52.0, 31.6 gives Lost in Battle and Consumed by Hatred. The WoW Forever Mankrik's wife answer has not moved: she is the Beaten Corpse at 49.3, 50.3, between the Stagnant Oasis and Camp Taurajo. Pick it up at 14, finish it while passing south.

Optimal Quest Chain Order

The WoW Forever Barrens quests route below is the old loop that still works: grab everything in town, clear the north in one sweep, hub-hop to Ratchet, then roll south. Turn in, pick up, move. Never walk empty.

  • Take Plainstrider Menace, Raptor Thieves, Disrupt the Attacks, The Forgotten Pools, Fungal Spores, Centaur Bracers and Wharfmaster Dizzywig in the Crossroads.
  • Kill plainstriders, raptors and Kolkar around town, then fly to Ratchet and take Southsea Freebooters, Samophlange, Raptor Horns, Root Samples and WANTED: Baron Longshore.
  • Talk through The Missing Shipment first, then clear the pirate camp south of Ratchet for Southsea Freebooters, Stolen Booty and Baron Longshore at 64.2, 47.1 in one visit.
  • Turn in The Disruption Ends and Supplies for the Crossroads after killing Kreenig Snarlsnout at 58.5, 27.0.
  • Head north for the Samophlange chain, kill Tinkerer Sniggles at 52.8, 10.4 and do Ignition with The Escape at the shredder at 56.5, 7.5.
  • Do The Stagnant Oasis, Altered Beings and the hunting chain up to Echeyakee while looping the middle of the zone.
  • Finish the centaur line with Kolkar Leaders, Verog the Dervish and Hezrul Bloodmark, and expect Hezrul himself at 46.0, 41.1.
  • Start Harpy Raiders at 15, continue with Harpy Lieutenants and end with Serena Bloodfeather at 39.2, 12.2 near level 20.
  • Move south at 19 with Jorn Skyseer, set hearth at Camp Taurajo and take Enraged Thunder Lizards, Ishamuhale and Cry of the Thunderhawk.
  • Take Tribes at War, collect blood shards for Blood Shards of Agamaggan, and spend them on Mangletooth buffs before hard pulls.
  • Run Wailing Caverns at 18 to 22 with all dungeon quests in the log, then leave for Stonetalon or Ashenvale.
  • Return at 27 for Mahren Skyseer, Isha Awak, Weapons of Choice and Revenge of Gann.
tip
Keep the hearth at the Crossroads until level 19, switch to Camp Taurajo for the south, and never hearth out of Ratchet when the flight path does the same job. A wasted hearth costs its full cooldown and a very long walk across a zone that did not get smaller.

What to Skip

  • Skip The Tear of the Moons, a level 30 group quest in Bael Modan that pays less than the corpse run.
  • Skip The Swarm Grows unless you already stand in the silithid fields at level 29.
  • Skip Deepmoss Spider Eggs unless you quest in Stonetalon anyway, and skip Blueleaf Tubers unless you run Razorfen Kraul.
  • Skip the level 24 step of Chen's Empty Keg, because the reward is a single Trogg Ale.
  • Skip Counterattack! solo, because the waves and Warlord Krom'zar punish anyone alone.

Elite and Group Quests: Do or Skip

Loading table...

Item starters are free XP when they fall. Hoof of Lakota'mani, Owatanka's Tailspike, Washte Pawne's Feather and Harvester's Head all turn in to Jorn Skyseer. Owatanka roams near 49.4, 61.1, Lakota'mani near 47.4, 51.3, Washte Pawne near 43.2, 80.9.

Wailing Caverns Dungeon Quests

The WoW Forever Wailing Caverns quests rule is simple: enter with the full stack or do not enter. The entrance sits in Lushwater Oasis southwest of the Crossroads, and Nalpak with Ebru wait in the cave above it at 46.0, 35.7.

  • Leaders of the Fang from Nara Wildmane in Thunder Bluff pays Crescent Staff or Wingblade.
  • Serpentbloom from Apothecary Zamah pays Apothecary Gloves.
  • Deviate Hides from Nalpak pays Deviate Hide Pack or Slick Deviate Leggings.
  • Deviate Eradication from Ebru pays Sizzle Stick, Dagmire Gauntlets or Pattern: Deviate Scale Belt.
  • Smart Drinks opens after Raptor Horns in Ratchet.
  • Trouble at the Docks from Crane Operator Bigglefuzz asks for Mad Magglish.
  • The Glowing Shard drops from Mutanus and leads to In Nightmares with Talbar Mantle or Quagmire Galoshes.

Best Quest Rewards and Drops Worth Keeping

Loading table...

Forever turns unique dungeon boss items into blues, so the Wailing Caverns set pieces , Leggings of the Fang, Footpads of the Fang, Belt of the Fang , are worth one extra run for leather wearers. A Sack of Coins from Miner's Fortune is pure money and should be opened, not admired.

Rares, Farm Spots and Loot

The WoW Forever Barrens rares mostly drop random greens, so kill them when they stand on your path and never camp them. Two exceptions carry real loot or a quest item.

Loading table...
  • Sunscale Scytheclaw around 57.0, 53.0 gives raptor horns, feathers and skins in one loop.
  • Hecklefang Snarler around 46.5, 55.2 is the cleanest hyena pack for leather.
  • Silithid Swarmer around 44.6, 71.9 feeds Egg Hunt and little else.
  • Fishing at Ratchet next to Kilxx at 62.8, 38.2 is the cheapest food source for Forever camping buffs.

Class and Side Quests at the Edges

  • Warriors take Path of Defense from Uzzek at Far Watch Post, 61.4, 21.1.
  • Any Horde player at 14 can take The Demon Seed from Ak'Zeloth at 62.3, 20.1.
  • Warriors at 20 take Trial at the Field of Giants from Ruga Ragetotem in Camp Taurajo.
  • Anyone passing the Stonetalon border takes Goblin Invaders from Seereth Stonebreak at 35.3, 27.9.

Lore in Thirty Seconds

The Barrens are a dying savanna. Naralex tried to heal them through the Emerald Dream, the Dream turned to nightmare, and his disciples became the Druids of the Fang inside Wailing Caverns. Centaur, quilboar and harpies fight over what is left, while the Alliance sits in Northwatch and Bael'dun digs for Ironforge. Mankrik lost his wife to the Bristlebacks, and the whole region spent twenty years asking where she was.

In the Forever timeline this is still year one, before Molten Core and before the Cataclysm tore the zone in half. That is the whole appeal of a WoW Classic Plus Barrens run: the map stays whole, the Gold Road stays long, and the chat stays unbearable.

Where to Go Next

Any sane WoW Forever leveling guide sends you out at 20 to 22 and back at 27. The next stops depend on faction habits and on the new Forever zones.

Loading table...

Shen'Dralas quests reportedly send players into Razorfen Downs and Maraudon, so treat it as a 30s zone until Blizzard publishes numbers. Razorfen Kraul sits at the southern edge of the Barrens and fits right after Needles.
