Overview
Ananta is a free-to-play urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain Studio and published by NetEase Games, available on PC via Steam, Android, iOS, and PlayStation. You play as an elite Agent of the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.), navigating a world where the line between street-level drama and world-ending threats blurs constantly. The pitch is simple: build your reputation, assemble a crew, and keep the chaos in check, all without being told exactly how to do it.
The game spans two distinct cities. Nova City is the primary playground, a sprawling metropolis lit by neon signs and packed with activity at every hour. Chongxiao serves as a second setting, grounding the story in something more personal. Having two fully realized urban environments rather than one padded-out map is a meaningful structural choice, giving the world genuine variety rather than the illusion of it.

Gameplay and mechanics
Ananta's core loop sits at the intersection of action combat, social simulation, and open-world exploration. The martial arts combat system puts the emphasis on street-level brawling where positioning and timing matter. Key features of the gameplay system include:

- Martial arts-based real-time combat
- Diverse playable characters with distinct roles
- Team assembly and squad management
- Traversal by car, bike, boat, and aerial movement
- 24/7 city activity cycles
The traversal system deserves attention. Players can drive cars, ride bikes, sail, or swing between buildings freely. The promise of "if you can see it, you can go there" is a bold one, and the aerial mobility in particular sets Ananta apart from most urban RPGs that keep movement firmly on the ground.

What kind of characters do you play in Ananta?
Ananta directly answers the question of character variety by offering roles that span the full social spectrum of its cities. You can step into the shoes of an NCCA officer, a genius hacker, or a gang leader, among others. Each character brings a different perspective on Nova City and Chongxiao, meaning the same streets read differently depending on who's walking them.
This character diversity feeds into the team-building system. Rather than locking players into a single protagonist, Ananta lets you forge connections across wildly different walks of life and build a crew that reflects your playstyle. The social layer here feels more developed than a typical RPG companion system.
World and setting
Nova City operates on a genuine day-night cycle with distinct activities tied to the time of day. Street racing at 3AM sits alongside daytime story missions and evening social encounters. The city is designed to feel inhabited rather than staged, with an in-game streaming mechanic that lets players broadcast their most spectacular moments.

Chongxiao provides the counterweight. Where Nova City is loud and forward-facing, Chongxiao is familiar territory with hidden depths. Moving between the two cities adds a narrative rhythm that keeps the world from feeling like one continuous grind. The contrast between the two settings is one of Ananta's most distinctive design choices, and it gives the open-world RPG format a structural backbone that many competitors lack.
