The For Science! achievement in ARC Raiders is one of those trophies that sounds straightforward until you realize it asks you to hit yourself with three different status effects at the exact same moment. Burn, Gas, and Stun all at once, on purpose. It will never happen by accident, so you need to walk in prepared with the right gear and execute a specific sequence without hesitation.
What items do you need for the For Science! achievement?
Three items make this work: a Jolt Mine, a Gas Grenade, and a Blaze Grenade. Each one applies a different status effect, and you need all three active on your body simultaneously to satisfy the For Science! achievement requirement.
Here is where to get each one:
- Jolt Mine (applies Stun): Buy one daily from Apollo in the hub, or craft it if you have the materials and want to save Coins.
- Gas Grenade (applies Gas): Also available from Apollo as a daily purchase, or craftable.
- Blaze Grenade (applies Burn): Not sold directly. Head to the Explosives Station and craft it using 1 Explosive Compound and 2 Oils.

How to unlock the For Science! achievement
Once you have all three items in your inventory, load into any map. You do not need a specific location, just enough open ground to place a mine and throw two grenades without obstacles blocking the blast.
Before you start, open your radial menu and confirm all three items are equipped and accessible. Running out of time to swap between them mid-sequence will waste the attempt.
Execute in this order:
- Place the Jolt Mine on the ground at your feet.
- Immediately throw the Gas Grenade directly at yourself to begin the Gas status.
- Before the gas dissipates, throw the Blaze Grenade on top of yourself and the mine.
- The Blaze Grenade explosion triggers the Jolt Mine, applying Stun. Combined with the active Gas and Burn, all three statuses land at once.
Do not place the Jolt Mine too far away. The Blaze Grenade needs to detonate close enough to trigger it. Keep everything within a 1-2 meter radius of your position.
The achievement pops as soon as all three status effects register simultaneously. The game confirms it with a standard trophy or achievement notification depending on your platform.

Should you bring a full loadout or go in light?
This depends entirely on what you want to do after the achievement unlocks. Two approaches work:
Minimal loadout: Bring only the three items. Once the achievement triggers, surrender the match and move on. This is faster and costs nothing beyond the three items.
Full loadout: Bring your normal gear alongside the three items. After the achievement pops, continue the run, loot the map, and extract normally through an elevator or hatch. You recover the investment and potentially profit from the loot.
If you are trophy hunting and just need the unlock, the minimal approach saves time. If you are playing regularly anyway, there is no reason not to pack a full kit.
The achievement is worth 10 Gamerscore on Xbox. On PlayStation, it registers as a standard bronze trophy. Either way, it only needs to be done once.
What else should you know about status effects in ARC Raiders?
Status effects in ARC Raiders are not just trophy bait. Burn, Gas, and Stun all have practical uses against ARC threats in the field. Understanding how they stack and interact is genuinely useful outside of this specific achievement context. The Trophy Display progression system also rewards players who engage with ARC threats systematically, so learning to apply status effects offensively pays off in multiple ways.

Jolt Mine positioned in field
The Jolt Mine in particular is one of the more underrated tools in the game. Placing it in a chokepoint before engaging a heavy ARC unit can interrupt attack patterns and give you a window to deal damage. The Gas Grenade pairs well with fire damage from the Blaze Grenade since enemies caught in gas take amplified burn damage in some scenarios.
Keep a Gas Grenade and Blaze Grenade in your regular loadout even after this achievement. The combination is effective against grouped ARC enemies and costs relatively little to maintain.
