Killstreaks are where Call of Duty matches swing from competitive to chaotic, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 packs 17 of them into the beta alone. The range spans from a basic UAV at 3 kills all the way to an Air Lockdown at 11, with the legendary Tactical Nuke sitting above the entire system at 30. Not all of them are available from the start, though. Most require you to grind through beta levels before they appear in your loadout options.

How many killstreaks are in the MW4 beta?

There are 17 killstreaks available during the Modern Warfare 4 beta. They're organized into four kill-count tiers: 3-kill, 5-kill, 7-kill, and 9-kill, plus two 11-kill options at the very top. Three of them are unlocked immediately when you first load in. The rest gate behind specific player levels, so early sessions will feel limited until you rank up.

Here's the full breakdown of every killstreak, how many kills it requires, and exactly when it unlocks:

What's available from the start?

The three default killstreaks give you a solid foundation. UAV at 3 kills is the most accessible option in the game and arguably the most useful in terms of team value, since enemy positions on the minimap affect every player on your squad. Artillery Beacon at 5 kills steps up the pressure without asking for a long streak, and Attack Helicopter at 9 kills is a genuine threat that can swing momentum in an objective match.

For most players in the first few hours of the beta, these three will carry you. Don't sleep on the UAV just because it feels basic.

tip
Running UAV as your low-tier streak and Artillery Beacon as your mid-tier streak lets you chain rewards consistently without overreaching. Chasing a 9-kill streak on day one of the beta usually ends with a death at 7.

Which killstreaks are worth grinding toward?

The 5-kill tier fills out quickly as you level. Counter UAV at Level 31 is worth prioritizing if you're playing against teams that run UAV stacks, since it blankets the enemy minimap and counters their intel advantage directly. Combat Drone at Level 26 adds an autonomous threat without requiring you to pilot anything.

At the 7-kill tier, Wheelson at Level 16 is the earliest unlock in that bracket and gives you a ground-based vehicle that can hold lanes or flush enemies from cover. Railgun Sentry at Level 38 sits much later but offers a stationary automated threat that can lock down chokepoints.

The 9-kill tier is where the beta's loadout options get genuinely interesting. Advanced UAV at Level 40 is a permanent, unjammable version of the standard UAV, which is a significant upgrade in competitive play. Argonaut at Level 45 adds another option before the 11-kill ceiling.

warning
The Gunship at Level 51 and Air Lockdown at Level 55 are the hardest killstreaks to both unlock and call in. Reaching those levels in a beta window takes serious time investment, and maintaining an 11-kill streak in a lobby that's actively trying to counter you is genuinely difficult.

For players who want to see the full game modes available in MW4 before committing to a killstreak strategy, knowing which modes reward aggressive play versus objective-focused play will change which streaks belong in your loadout.

Can you call in a Tactical Nuke in the MW4 beta?

Yes. The Tactical Nuke is confirmed available in the Modern Warfare 4 beta. It sits outside the standard killstreak system and requires a 30-kill streak to trigger. Landing one ends the match immediately in your favor, which is the same mechanic Call of Duty fans have known since Modern Warfare 2. Activision shared the Nuke cutscene publicly before the beta launched, and within the first hour of beta access, a player confirmed it in a live match.

The 30-kill requirement means this is more of a statement play than a consistent strategy, but it's there if you're running hot.

How to level up fast and unlock higher-tier killstreaks

Beta progression gates the best killstreaks behind levels that take time to reach. A few things accelerate the climb:

  • Play objectives. Capturing flags, planting bombs, and holding zones generate more XP per minute than pure kills in most modes.
  • Complete challenges. Beta challenges tied to specific weapons or playstyles often award bonus XP that stacks on top of match earnings.
  • Stay alive longer. Deaths reset your killstreak counter and waste the time you spent building it. Positioning matters more than aggression when you're trying to reach Level 38+ for the Railgun Sentry.
  • Use Care Package early. Unlocked at Level 9, the Care Package at 3 kills can randomly award a higher-tier streak, giving you access to rewards you haven't technically unlocked yet.

If you're still working through beta access, the MW4 beta rewards guide covers every level milestone and what carries over to the full game.

The MW4 beta killstreak roster is one of the more substantial ones seen at this stage of a Call of Duty launch. Seventeen options across a wide kill-count range gives every playstyle something to work toward.
