Crimson Desert Guide: All Abyss Cressets Locations

Abyss Cressets are one of Crimson Desert's best-kept secrets. Most players stumble past them without realizing they double as fast travel waypoints once solved, on top of handing out Abyss Artifacts that feed directly into skill upgrades and gear refinement. There are over 20 of them scattered across the land of Pywel, and tracking them all down without a roadmap wastes hours you could spend actually playing the game.

What are Abyss Cressets and why should you care?

On the surface, Abyss Cressets look like environmental puzzles tied to ancient ruins. Approach one and the small pillar shows a "Take" prompt. Grab the artifact and the cresset activates. Some cressets hand over the artifact immediately; others gate it behind a nearby puzzle that you need to solve first.

The real payoff is twofold. First, every activated cresset adds a permanent fast travel waypoint to your map, working exactly like Abyss Nexuses do. Second, the Abyss Artifacts you collect can be spent on new skills or used during the refinement process to upgrade your gear. Skipping these is leaving meaningful progression on the table.

How do you find Abyss Cressets on the map?

Neither Abyss Nexuses nor Abyss Cressets appear on your map by default. As you explore, the map flags certain areas as Mysterious Energy. Head to those markers and you will find either a Nexus or a Cresset waiting. Both show up as large question marks on a cloudy background before you investigate them.

Once you have solved a cresset's puzzle, select its icon on the map and hold the confirm button to teleport there, identical to how standard Nexus fast travel works.

What puzzle types appear at Abyss Cressets?

No two cresset puzzles are identical. After testing all of them across the full map, the mechanics break down into a few repeating categories:

  • Tile puzzles (most common): Step on or rotate floor tiles to match a required pattern.
  • Skill-based puzzles: Use specific abilities like Force Palm or Axiom Force on designated targets or pressure points.
  • Environmental puzzles: Move stones, pull levers, or light fires in a specific sequence.
  • Combination puzzles: Mix two or more of the above mechanics in a single encounter.

The individual ruins each have their own named puzzle, including the Meandering Hills Ruins, Precipice of Echoes Ruins, Duskwood Waterside Ruins, and Halssius Conflux Ruins, among others.

What do Abyss Artifacts actually do?

Every solved cresset drops one Abyss Artifact. These serve two purposes in Crimson Desert:

  • Skill purchases: Spend artifacts at the appropriate menu to unlock new abilities for Kliff, Damiane, or Oongka.
  • Gear refinement: Feed artifacts into the refinement system to push equipment to higher tiers.

Artifacts are not especially abundant from other sources, which makes clearing every cresset a priority if you want to stay ahead of the progression curve. Sealed Abyss Artifacts offer an alternative route, but those require completing dedicated challenge encounters first.
