Romance in Crimson Desert runs on two separate Trust bars, so reaching 100 with an NPC opens the relationship rather than finishing it. Charting the Unknown adds flirting, relationship quests, and marriage, but the heart icon beside an NPC's Trust gauge decides whether you can start. The most straightforward candidates are Pywel's four Witches: their faction quests help build initial Trust, and their romance routes include dedicated dialogue. This guide covers the eligibility check, daily interactions, marriage milestones, and what you can do with your spouse.

Who can you romance in Crimson Desert?

Open an NPC's interaction menu and look beside the Trust gauge in the upper-right corner. A person-and-heart icon indicates that the NPC is eligible for romance with your current protagonist. A crossed-out icon means they are unavailable.

The four Witches, Elowen, Bari, Lyselia, and Areciel, have dedicated romance dialogue and relationship quests that lead to marriage. Eligible shopkeepers, craftspeople, and wandering residents can also be courted, but you need to check each NPC individually.

If marriage is your goal, start with a Witch whose faction quests you have already completed. The Trust earned through those quests reduces how much daily relationship-building remains. For help with the expansion's other systems, keep the Charting the Unknown features and unlock guide handy.

How do you start a romance?

An eligible NPC needs 100 regular Trust before you can successfully begin flirting. This is the original NPC relationship gauge, which starts at 0, rather than the separate romance gauge you unlock afterward.

Use this sequence:

  1. Interact with the NPC and check their heart icon.
  2. Raise their regular Trust to 100 through gifts, conversation, and associated quests.
  3. Select Flirt in the interaction menu.
  4. Your protagonist presents flowers, starting the romantic relationship.
  5. Begin raising the newly unlocked romance Trust gauge, which starts at 0.

How can you build the first Trust bar efficiently?

Gifts remain useful for the initial Trust grind. Gold Bars and items the NPC likes can raise Trust, while the expanded conversation system lets you choose subjects that interest them. Picking a preferred topic produces a larger Trust gain.

Associated quests are especially valuable because they give you another way to progress beyond daily interactions. That is the practical advantage of pursuing the Witches: their faction quests contribute to the relationship before you start their romance routes.

  • Give gifts: Use Gold Bars or items the NPC likes.
  • Choose relevant conversation topics: Match the NPC's interests for better Trust gains.
  • Complete their quests: Finish associated quests when they have them, including Witch faction quests.

How does the second romance Trust bar work?

A successful first flirt opens a separate gauge that also uses the Trust label. Think of it as your bonding meter: the original 100 Trust gets you into the relationship, while this new 0-to-100 bar tracks romantic progress.

Make daily conversation the core of this stage. Use Getting to Know Them when it appears, choose empathetic responses, and return for Chatting and Greeting interactions after advancing to another day.

Which equipment helps raise Trust?

Solidarity and Companionship Abyss Gears, along with the Rabbit Leather Mask, can increase Trust gains. Use these bonuses to help shorten the relationship grind rather than relying entirely on unboosted daily conversations.

Keep checking the romance gauge as it rises. For the named marriage routes, progress also involves relationship quests at specific milestones, so daily chats are only part of the process.

How do you get married?

For a straightforward marriage route, pursue Elowen, Bari, Lyselia, or Areciel. Each Witch has unique dialogue and side quests that develop the relationship toward a proposal.

Watch for relationship quests when romance Trust reaches these milestones:

  • 50 Trust: Check for the next relationship side quest.
  • 75 Trust: Continue the relationship through its next quest milestone.
  • 100 Trust: Complete the remaining relationship progression and use Propose when available.

The Witches are the strongest recommendation if you want a marriage route with dedicated scenes and quests. Other residents offer more people to court, but the four Witch routes give you a clear set of relationship milestones to follow.

What changes after you get married?

Marriage adds practical spouse interactions beyond the proposal scene. Your spouse appears on the map, can accompany you on your travels, and can move in with you. They also provide gifts.

Your available spouse activities include:

  • Finding them through their map marker.
  • Summoning them to travel with you.
  • Having them move in with you.
  • Receiving gifts from them.

Romance is one of Charting the Unknown's added systems. For the wider expansion overview, read the Charting the Unknown feature breakdown.

Can you romance more than one NPC?

You can flirt with multiple eligible NPCs, but you can have only one spouse. Starting another romance and entering another marriage are separate decisions.

How do you end a marriage?

Interact with your spouse and select Break Up from their action menu. The marriage ends through a dedicated cutscene that includes a writ of annulment.

For the clearest path to marriage, choose a Witch, finish her faction quests, raise regular Trust to 100, and then work through the second gauge and relationship quests. Use the Crimson Desert guide collection for help with your next objective in Pywel.
