Grab this early gold bar in Crimson ...

The Hernand Bank is one of the most overlooked money-making tools in Crimson Desert. Most players walk past it, grab a quest item, and move on. That's a mistake. Behind that banker sits a passive income loop that can fund your gear upgrades, weapon purchases, and everything else Pywel throws at you, and with the right approach, the "high risk" investment option carries almost no risk at all.

How to open a bank account in Crimson Desert

Head to the north side of Hernand and look for the bank near the castle entrance. Speak to the banker (Grover) and pay 100 Silver for a Personal Strongbox Permit. Pay it once and your account works at all four banks across Pywel. You do not need to repeat this at each location.

The permit gives you two things: a place to deposit Gold Bars and access to the investment system. You can also exchange Gold Bars for Silver at any bank at a rate of 500 Silver per bar, or buy bars at the same price.

Once your account is open, you can deposit bars and start selecting an investment strategy. The bank screen shows a "next refresh time" countdown that tells you exactly when your dividends will be calculated.

Where are all the bank locations in Crimson Desert?

There are four banks in Crimson Desert, one in each major settlement. All share the same account and investment pool, so you can manage everything from whichever location is most convenient.

Fast travel to any of these using nearby Abyss Nexus points. For early-game play, the Hernand Bank is the most accessible and the one you will spend the most time at.

How to get Gold Bars in Crimson Desert

Every investment requires Gold Bars. Here are all the reliable methods to acquire them.

Lioncrest Manor fireplace (your first free Gold Bar)

This is the fastest way to get your first bar, and you can reach it within a few hours of starting the game. Lioncrest Manor sits northwest of Hernand's main town square, marked as House Alfonso on the map.

Before you go, buy a Thief's Mask from Grimrak at the Back Alley Shop (southeast of Hernand's church, costs 10 copper). Then follow these steps:

  1. Go around the back of Lioncrest Manor. Guards block the front.
  2. Climb the wall to the right of the back door and enter through the upstairs window.
  3. Head downstairs to the entrance chamber and find the fireplace with the stone lion's head above it.
  4. Crouch, extinguish the fire, then use your lantern.
  5. Hold L1/LB on the area just below the mantlepiece to find the hidden compartment.
  6. Steal the Gold Bar and wait for the crime indicator to clear before leaving.

This bar respawns every 3 in-game days, making it a renewable source. Complete Bruna's Request first to clear the NPCs that can obstruct the fireplace. Getting caught sends you to jail and costs you your mask, but you keep the bar.

Spire of Insight (Gold Bar crafting recipe)

South of Hernand, past Pororin Village in the Steel Mountains, sits the Spire of Insight. Solve all four riddles inside to unlock the Alchemy Recipe: Gold Bar, which lets you craft bars from raw materials (Brimstone x3, Mercury x3, Silver Ore x10 per bar). Take the recipe to any Witch's hideout to craft. The closest one is Shadow's Whisper Cave north of Hernand.

Karin Quarry Gold Vein Map

Defeat the boss at Karin Quarry to receive the Gold Vein Map, which reveals 10 cave locations across Pywel containing Gold Ore deposits. Mine the ore, then craft bars using the Spire of Insight recipe. This is the most scalable long-term source since ore veins replenish over time.

Other sources

  • Treasure Trader Goblin: A roaming goblin carrying a chest spawns randomly across the map. Chase it down and the chest drops one Gold Bar. Rare, but worth grabbing when spotted.
  • Pickpocketing nobles: Nobles in Hernand sometimes carry Gold Bars. Equip your mask, approach from behind, and hold L1/LB to pickpocket. Inconsistent, but 500 Silver for a few seconds of work is hard to argue with.
  • Buy directly from the bank: Once your investment loop is running, you can buy bars at 500 Silver each from any banker and reinvest them immediately.

How does the investment system work?

After depositing Gold Bars into your strongbox, you select one of three risk strategies. The bank recalculates your returns on a timer that refreshes approximately every 3 in-game days. According to IGN's Crimson Desert guide, the results are not predetermined, which is what makes the system exploitable.

You can switch strategies every 15 in-game days. Dividends and losses stay in the bank until you manually withdraw them. The bank screen displays the refresh countdown near the mini-map. When the timer hits zero, the system enters a "refreshing" state for about one minute before showing results. Check the Previous Investments tab to see exactly what you gained or lost.

How to guarantee profits with save-scumming

The investment outcome is rolled fresh every time you load a save. That makes High Risk investing essentially risk-free if you are willing to reload.

Here is the full process:

  1. Deposit your Gold Bars and select High Risk.
  2. Note the refresh countdown on the bank screen.
  3. Create a manual save 30-60 in-game minutes before the timer expires. This gives you enough buffer to return to the bank after reloading.
  4. Wait for the timer to reach zero and the refreshing state to complete.
  5. Open the Previous Investments tab to check your result.
  6. If the result is a 50-55% gain, withdraw your silver and continue.
  7. If the result is a loss, reload your manual save and wait for the refresh again. The outcome will be different.

A few things to keep in mind: you cannot rapidly force refresh cycles by sleeping repeatedly, since the rest mechanic has a cooldown requiring at least 10 in-game hours (roughly 50 real-time minutes) between each use. Each in-game hour equals 5 real-time minutes, so a full 3-day cycle takes some patience. Sleeping at a bed or resting near a bonfire skips 12 hours at a time and is the fastest way to advance the timer.

How to rob a bank in Crimson Desert

Bank robbery is a separate income stream from investing, and it works at all four locations. You need two items from Grimrak's Back Alley Shop (southeast of Hernand's church):

  • Thief's Mask (10 copper)
  • Key (available from the same vendor)

Once you have both:

  1. Enter any bank and find the locked door across from the teller.
  2. Use your Key to unlock it automatically.
  3. Step inside and equip your Thief's Mask from inventory.
  4. Crouch using L3 to reduce detection.
  5. Approach strongboxes on the shelves and chests on the floor. Examine with L1/LB, steal with X/A.
  6. Wait for the Crime Theft meter in the top right to disappear between each theft.
  7. Unequip the mask and walk out normally.
  8. Open stolen strongboxes from your inventory to extract silver coins.

A full vault run nets 30-55 Silver coins depending on how many containers you clear. The cost is 5 Contribution XP per stolen item, which lowers your faction rank with that settlement. If Contribution Rank matters to you, limit your robbery runs. If it does not, the four vaults across Pywel give you repeatable quick-cash options between investment cycles.

What is the Golden Piggy Bank and how do you get it?

The Golden Piggy Bank is a Key Item that generates passive currency even while the game is closed. It stacks on top of your investment income and requires no active management once activated.

To get it:

  1. Complete approximately 10 House Serkis faction quests in Hernand.
  2. This triggers the quest "The Nemesis' Demise."
  3. Defeat the boss Walter Lanford (a shotgun-wielding enemy) at the end of the quest.
  4. Receive the Golden Piggy Bank as a reward.

Activate it from your Key Items inventory. The game returns you to the title screen. The next time you log in, you receive Light Copper Pouches based on how long you were offline. The longer the gap between sessions, the more pouches accumulate.

Putting the loop together

The full money loop in Crimson Desert comes together faster than the game suggests. Start by paying 100 Silver for a Personal Strongbox Permit at the Hernand Bank. Grab your first Gold Bar from the Lioncrest Manor fireplace, deposit it, and select High Risk. Save before the next refresh window, collect your 50-55% dividend, and use that silver to buy another bar. Repeat the cycle, scale up your bar count, and eventually switch to Low Risk for hands-off passive income.

Rob the vault at Hernand between refresh cycles for quick silver when you need cash immediately. Complete the Spire of Insight puzzle for the Gold Bar crafting recipe, then clear Karin Quarry for the Gold Vein Map to set up a self-sustaining supply chain. Finish the House Serkis questline to unlock the Golden Piggy Bank for offline income on top of everything else.
