The Spire of Insight sits in the Steel Mountains subregion of Demeniss, southeast of Glenbright Manor and south of Pororin Village. It's one of three Spires in the region, and solving its riddles opens an Abyss Gate that drops you straight into the Chaos Forest puzzle. The tower looks intimidating from the outside, but the riddles follow a clear logic once you know what to look for. Here's everything you need to get from the front door to the top floor.
How do you find and enter the Spire of Insight?
The Spire of Insight is hard to miss once you're in the right area. It sits just northeast of the "Steel Mountains" label on the map and towers over the surrounding terrain. From IGN's guide, it's described as a short ways east of Eastern Goblin Camp and Ruined Chapel, and southwest of Willow River. GameSpot confirms you can also reach it by heading south of Hernand, past Pororin Village.
When you arrive, a group of Fundamentalist Goblins will be patrolling the area. You can fight them or use stealth to slip past, but clearing them out first makes the puzzle-solving much more relaxed. The entrance is blocked by thorny vines. To burn them away, use Blinding Flash (on controller: LB/L1 + RB/R1, then hold RB/R1 and press LB/L1; on keyboard: Ctrl + left-click, then hold Ctrl). You can alternatively light a fire arrow from a nearby lantern or brazier and shoot the vines instead.
With the vines cleared, read the plaque on the door. It says: "When the bones of the earth awaken from their long silence and find their place, time begins to flow once more." Pick up one of the small pebbles on the ground in front of the door and place it in the bowl to unlock the entrance.

Floor-by-floor puzzle solutions
Floor one: the gravestone
Step inside and head straight to find a giant book on a raised platform, with a large golden bowl in front of it. Reading the book gives you the clue: "Even after many years have passed, the traces left behind revive forgotten tales."
The book's illustration shows a gravestone. Look to the right of the platform and you'll find a gravestone sitting on a desk along the wall. Pick it up, return to the platform, and place it in the golden bowl.
warning
Don't step off the platform after placing the item. The platform acts as an elevator and will carry you up to the next floor automatically. Step off early and you'll need to ride it back down.
Floor two: the telescope and pen tip
The second floor book reads: "Records filled with wisdom guide us to the past, while tools that look to distant places illuminate the future." Two items to find here.
The telescope (tools that look to distant places) is on the desk in the southwest corner of the floor, across from the bookshelf with the ladder. The pen tip (records filled with wisdom) is trickier. From the golden bowl facing south, head to the southeast corner toward the window where there's a desk with scrolls, then turn right into the adjacent back room. The pen tip is on the desk there, tucked into the back right corner. IGN warns it requires some pixel hunting, so move the camera carefully.
Place both the telescope and the pen tip in the golden bowl to ride the elevator up.
First floor gravestone location
Floor three: the celestial, sundial, and small map rotator
Before touching the book on the third floor, grab two optional collectibles that are easy to miss.
- The Alchemy Formula: Gold Bars is taped to the edge of the head-level bookshelf directly behind the giant book, on the left bookshelf next to the gap between the two shelves.
- The Two-Handed Weapons of the World Vol. II blueprint is a red book on the bottom bookshelf directly to the left of the golden bowl. Lean the camera around to spot it leaning against the side wall.
Once you've grabbed those, read the book: "The dance of the heavens, the turning of the earth, and the march of time all point to a single truth." Three items to find.
Collect all three and drop them into the golden bowl. The platform carries you to the top floor.
What happens after you solve the Spire of Insight?
At the top of the tower, you'll find an Abyss Gate. Step through it and you'll be transported to the Chaos Forest Abyss puzzle, which is a separate challenge entirely. The Spire of Insight is an optional location and not tied to any main quest, but clearing it contributes to your Abyss Islands progression and nets you those two recipes along the way.
