Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 (Edgerunners 2) finally delivers the akimbo gunslinger fantasy the game always hinted at. The new Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree lets V fire two Power Pistols or Power Revolvers simultaneously, and with the right perks and cyberware stacked behind it, the build hits harder than most players expect from a playstyle that carries a damage penalty. Here is everything you need to unlock it, build around it, and actually make it work.

Quick tip: You do not need Phantom Liberty to access dual-wielding. The Double Trouble perk is part of the free Update 2.5 content and is available to all players once Cool reaches level 9.

How do you unlock dual-wielding in Cyberpunk 2077?

Dual-wielding is not available by default after updating the game. You have to earn it through the Cool attribute tree.

The steps are straightforward:

  1. Open the Character menu and navigate to the Cool attribute branch.
  2. Raise Cool to level 9 to unlock the Double Trouble perk node.
  3. Spend one Perk Point on Double Trouble to activate dual-wielding.
  4. Open your Inventory, equip a Power Pistol or Power Revolver as your primary weapon.
  5. Use the newly available secondary weapon slot to equip a second compatible handgun.

Once both slots are filled, V holds one gun in each hand and fires them simultaneously. You can mix weapon types freely, pairing a Power Pistol with a Power Revolver, and Iconic weapons retain their special effects when dual-wielded.

What does Double Trouble actually do?

The perk has two ranks, each unlocked with a separate Perk Point investment.

RankEffect
Rank 1Enables dual-wielding. Each weapon deals 37.5% less damage. Aiming reduces recoil and bullet spread by 15%.
Rank 2Unlocks Heywood Hurricane: both weapons fire automatically for 1 second with 50% increased bullet spread. Ammo spent on successful shots is refilled. Replaces Quick Melee Attack.

The 37.5% damage reduction per gun is the number that makes players hesitate. The math still works out in your favor since you are firing two weapons, but you need the supporting perks to close the gap against single-weapon builds at higher difficulties.

On controller, Heywood Hurricane triggers with R3. On keyboard, it is bound to Q. The attack consumes Triple Tequila stacks for bonus damage, which is why the four supporting perks matter as much as Double Trouble itself.

What are all the dual-wield support perks?

Four additional Cool-tree perks exist specifically to reinforce the Double Trouble playstyle. All four require Cool 9.

PerkEffect
Triple Tequila+10% Mitigation Chance per kill while dual-wielding. Stacks up to 3 times, each lasting 15 seconds. Stacks are consumed by Heywood Hurricane for +15% damage per stack.
Keep 'Em Comin'+40 Stamina after neutralizing an enemy while dual-wielding. +20 additional Stamina per active Triple Tequila stack.
Two Right Hands-25% Stamina cost when hip-firing. -20% recoil and -20% bullet spread when aiming with dual-wield.
Splash of Love+50% fire rate for Heywood Hurricane. At maximum Triple Tequila stacks, extends Heywood Hurricane duration by 1 second.

The mistake most players make is skipping Triple Tequila because it reads like a defensive perk. It is actually the engine that powers Heywood Hurricane damage. Three stacks going into the burst means 45% bonus damage on top of the fire rate boost from Splash of Love. Prioritize it early.

Best attributes for the dual-wield build

Cool is the foundation, but the full build needs investment across three attributes to function properly at the endgame.

AttributeLevel 60 TargetLevel 50 Target
Cool2020
Technical Ability2020
Reflexes2015
Body1813
Intelligence33

The Level 60 column requires Phantom Liberty. The Level 50 setup runs fine on the base game.

Leveling priority:

  • Cool 9 first to unlock Double Trouble and start using both weapon slots.
  • Cool 20 next to access the full handgun perk cluster, including Deadeye and Run 'N' Gun.
  • Technical Ability 20 for cyberware capacity and the Edgerunner perk.
  • Reflexes 15-20 for Dash and Air Dash, which keep you mobile between cover positions.
  • Body last with remaining points for survivability.

What are the best weapons for dual-wielding?

Iconic Power Pistols are the strongest choices because their special effects remain active when dual-wielded. Here is where to find the top options.

WeaponHow to GetStrength
La Chingona DoradaSend Jackie's body to his family after The Heist, complete the Heroes side job, then return to El Coyote Cojo after the ceremony.Headshot-focused with stacking Crit Damage and Burn chance bonuses.
KongouCollect from Yorinobu Arasaka's penthouse during The Heist.Fast-firing with reduced recoil and improved ricochet.
Dying NightObtain from Wilson during The Gun side job.Strong early-game option that rewards aggressive movement.
Malorian Arms 3516Take from Grayson during Chippin' In.Late-game pick with armor penetration and high headshot potential.
ArchangelReceive from Kerry Eurodyne during A Like Supreme.Heavy-damage Power Revolver with knockdown on accurate shots.

La Chingona Dorada paired with Kongou is the recommended starting combination. The former scales hard with the headshot perks from the Cool tree, while Kongou's ricochet behavior complements Power weapon play in tight spaces. Swap Kongou for Malorian Arms 3516 once you reach Chippin' In.

For a Revolver-focused setup, Archangel with an Overture is a legitimate alternative. The tradeoff is smaller magazines and a harder reliance on precision over volume of fire.

Best cyberware for dual-wielding

The Militech "Apogee" Sandevistan is the operating system of choice for this build. It slows time by up to 85%, improves headshot damage, and boosts Critical Chance and Critical Damage simultaneously. It becomes available from Ripperdocs at level 40.

CyberwareSlotBenefit
Militech "Apogee" SandevistanOperating SystemUp to 85% time slow, improved headshot damage, Crit Chance, and Crit Damage.
Ballistic CoprocessorHandsImproves Power weapon ricochet performance.
KerenzikovNervous SystemSlow-motion window during evasive aiming.
Blood PumpCirculatory SystemOn-demand healing for large group fights.
BiomonitorCirculatory SystemAuto-activates healing when health drops critically low.
Optical CamoIntegumentary SystemRepositioning and approach tool during combat.
AxolotlFrontal CortexReduces cyberware cooldowns after kills.

Technical Ability 20 is required to fit the high-end pieces. Prioritize License to Chrome and Edgerunner once your attribute points allow it. Axolotl pairs particularly well with Sandevistan since kills keep the cooldown moving faster, letting you chain slow-time windows across larger encounters.

For cyberware appearance options now available in Update 2.5, the Glamdoc locations and cyberware customization guide covers all 5 Night City Glamdoc spots and every Arms skin available.

How to play the dual-wield build effectively

The build works best at close-to-medium range. The 37.5% damage reduction per gun means standing still and trading shots at long range is a losing proposition. Stay mobile, chain kills for Triple Tequila stacks, and time Sandevistan for the moments when you need precise headshots.

Here is the core combat loop:

  • Activate Sandevistan before engaging a group. Use the time slow to line up headshots and build Triple Tequila stacks from the first kills.
  • Keep 'Em Comin' restores 40 Stamina per kill, plus 20 per Triple Tequila stack. Keep neutralizing enemies to stay topped off for hip-fire.
  • Use Dash and Air Dash to move between cover rather than absorbing hits. The build has no natural tankiness, so positioning is the defense.
  • Trigger Heywood Hurricane at max Triple Tequila stacks (3 stacks) for the full 45% damage bonus and Splash of Love's extended duration.
  • Reload after precision kills to benefit from High Noon, which improves reload speed following eliminations while Deadeye is active.

The full perk picture beyond the dual-wield cluster includes Focus, Deadeye, California Reaper, Long Shot, and Run 'N' Gun from the Cool handgun tree. Run 'N' Gun specifically removes Stamina consumption when hip-firing Pistols, which synergizes directly with the Two Right Hands perk's hip-fire reduction and lets you sprint and shoot without draining the Stamina pool you need for Heywood Hurricane.

FAQ

Do I need Phantom Liberty to dual-wield? No. Double Trouble is part of the free Update 2.5 content. Phantom Liberty only matters if you want to push attributes to level 60 for the expanded build.

Can I use two different Iconic pistols? Yes. You can pair any two compatible Power-category handguns, including mixing Iconic weapons. Their unique effects remain active when dual-wielded.

Does the 37.5% damage penalty make the build weaker than single-weapon builds? At base, two guns with the penalty still out-damage one gun. The gap closes further with the correct perks, Iconic weapon bonuses, and Sandevistan active. The build is not a damage downgrade, but it requires the full perk investment to reach that point.

Can I dual-wield on console? Yes. Update 2.5 is available on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Heywood Hurricane triggers with R3 on controller.

Is a Nintendo Switch 2 version available? As of the Update 2.5 launch on October 22, 2026, no release date has been confirmed for the Switch 2 version of the update.
