What are the Touchline Magic Evolution requirements?

The Touchline Magic Evolution in EA Sports FC 27 targets one specific problem in most FUT squads: a winger slot that's stuck at 77-80 OVR while the rest of the team has moved on. Four matches, two new PlayStyles, and a jump to 85 pace across the board. Whether you're running the free version or paying 20,000 coins to unlock it on a second player, the upgrade math is hard to argue with.

What are the Touchline Magic Evolution requirements?

Before you commit a card, the eligibility rules are strict. The player must be an LW or RW with a maximum overall rating of 80 and a pace attribute no higher than 86. Players who also hold ST, CM, or CAM positions are excluded entirely. The PlayStyle count must be 7 or fewer.

The pace cap at 86 is the restriction that trips most people up. The natural instinct is to throw in a fast winger, but the meta options with 87+ pace are all locked out. That actually works in your favor: it pushes you toward cheaper, undervalued cards that clear the requirements with room to spare.

Full eligibility checklist

  • Maximum OVR: 80
  • Maximum Pace: 86
  • Maximum PlayStyles: 7
  • Position: LW or RW only
  • Excluded positions: ST, CM, CAM

What upgrades does Touchline Magic give across all 4 levels?

Each level requires just one match in Squad Battles at minimum Semi-Pro difficulty, or any match in Rush, Rivals, FUT Champions, or Live Events with the EVO player active in the starting XI. Four levels means four matches minimum, and you can clear all of them in a single session.

LevelKey Stat BoostsPlayStyle Added
1+10 OVR (capped at 84), Sprint Speed to 85, Agility to 84, Dribbling to 84, Long Shots to 81None
2Att. Position to 81, Vision to 79, Balance to 83, Composure to 83Technical
3Finishing to 82, Short Passing to 80, Reactions to 83, Stamina to 82Quick Step
4Acceleration to 85, Ball Control to 84, Curve to 83, Shot Power to 81, +1 Skill Moves (to 4-star)None

The finished card lands at 85 Sprint Speed, 85 Acceleration, 84 Ball Control, 84 Agility, and 84 Dribbling. That's a genuinely competitive stat line for a wide player at this price range. Technical improves first touch after sharp turns, while Quick Step delivers explosive acceleration out of a dribble. Both PlayStyles are purpose-built for LW and RW roles, and the jump to 4-star Skill Moves at Level 4 opens up the Step Over, Heel to Heel, and Rainbow Flick move sets.

FC 27 Guide: Best Players to Use for Touchline Magic Evolution

Is Touchline Magic worth 20,000 coins?

The free version is an obvious yes. For the paid unlock, the math depends on what you're replacing.

Cost ItemCoins
Touchline Magic unlock20,000
Eligible base card (budget pick)500-3,000
Total investment~20,500-23,000
Comparable 84-rated LW/RW on transfer market30,000-80,000+

For squads currently running a 77-80 rated winger, the evo saves you somewhere between 7,000 and 57,000 coins compared to buying an equivalent card outright. The chemistry flexibility is the other advantage: you pick the player who fits your squad's nationality and league links, then bring the stats up to 84 OVR. A market-bought 84-rated winger locks you into whatever chemistry that card already carries.

The one situation where it doesn't pay off: if you're already playing a promo winger rated 84 or higher, there's nothing to upgrade. The OVR cap means promo cards rated 81+ don't qualify.

Best players to use for the Touchline Magic Evolution

After testing the eligible pool, six players stand out. The Meta Score figures below reflect post-evolution performance in each player's optimal role.

Andrés Martín (77 OVR, RW, R. Racing Club)

Andrés Martín is the top pick by peak Meta Score. Available for around 700-850 coins depending on platform, he reaches a Meta Score of 86.4 at full evolution, finishing with 85 PAC, 81 SHO, 77 PAS, 84 DRI, 35 DEF, and 74 PHY. He gains both Technical and Quick Step PlayStyles and performs best as an RM Inside Forward with a Hunter chemistry style. The Meta Score jump from 80.0 to 86.4 is the largest gain on this list.

Denis Bouanga (79 OVR, LW, LAFC)

Denis Bouanga starts with a higher base Meta Score of 83.3, which means the relative gain is smaller, but his final card is still strong at 85.6. He ends with 86 PAC, 82 SHO, 75 PAS, 84 DRI, 38 DEF, and 79 PHY. At around 650 coins, he's the cheapest option on the list and works best as an LM Inside Forward with a Finisher chemistry style.

Anis Hadj Moussa (80 OVR TOTW, RW, Feyenoord)

Anis Hadj Moussa is the premium pick. His Team of the Week card costs significantly more (around 24,250 coins on console, 18,500 on PC), but he brings 5-star Skill Moves into the evo and finishes with 88 DRI alongside a Meta Score of 85.3. If you want the ceiling on dribbling stats, this is the card.

Guedes (80 OVR, LW, Real Sociedad)

Guedes offers the best value among the 80-rated options at around 650 coins. He climbs to a Meta Score of 85.0 with Technical and Quick Step added, finishing with 85 PAC, 83 SHO, 77 PAS, and 84 DRI. His multi-position eligibility (RM, LM, CAM, RW, ST) makes him flexible for chemistry setups.

Berenguer (79 OVR, RW, Athletic Club)

Berenguer reaches a Meta Score of 84.7 and picks up both PlayStyles, finishing with 85 PAC, 81 SHO, 78 PAS, and 84 DRI. His DEF stat of 67 is notably higher than the other picks, which helps in pressing systems. Available for around 650 coins.

Anders Dreyer (79 OVR, RW, San Diego FC)

Anders Dreyer matches Berenguer at 84.7 Meta Score and also costs around 650 coins. He finishes with 85 PAC, 81 SHO, 78 PAS, and 85 DRI. The Hunter chemistry style is recommended to push his pace and shooting stats further.

How to complete the Touchline Magic challenges fast

All four levels share the same challenge format: play one match with your EVO player active in the starting XI. The match can be Squad Battles at Semi-Pro or above, Rush, Rivals, FUT Champions, or a Live Event.

  • Load your EVO player into the starting XI at LW or RW
  • Queue a Squad Battles match at Semi-Pro difficulty
  • Complete the match (result doesn't matter)
  • Return to the Evolutions menu and advance to the next level
  • Repeat three more times

The entire process takes under 20 minutes in Squad Battles. If you're already grinding Rivals, those matches count toward the evo simultaneously, so there's no need to play separate sessions.
