What are the gift tiers in Fields of Mistria?

Gifting is one of the fastest ways to build relationships in Fields of Mistria, the cozy farming sim from NPC Studio. Every villager accepts one gift per day, and the item you choose determines how much friendship you earn. A loved gift nets you +20 friendship points, a liked gift gives +10, and anything outside those lists counts as neutral for a flat +3. Bad gifts never subtract points, so a hated item is a wasted slot rather than a setback. Birthdays stack a bonus +20 on top of whatever gift you bring, making them the single best day to hand over a loved item.

There are 12 romanceable characters in total, plus a larger cast of non-romanceable villagers worth befriending. Two romance options are secret characters you unlock through story progression, so their entries appear at the end of this guide to avoid spoilers. For everything that follows the wedding, check out the Fields of Mistria marriage guide once you're ready to take things further.

What are the gift tiers in Fields of Mistria?

Every NPC sorts incoming gifts into five categories:

  • Loved (+20 friendship): the items each character is most excited to receive
  • Liked (+10 friendship): appreciated but not their favourites
  • Neutral (+3 friendship): anything not on either list
  • Disliked (no change): typically junk items, bugs, or "weird gifts" (heart-shaped animal treats)
  • Hated (no change, unique dialogue): one specific item per character that triggers a special reaction

Some NPCs also have banned gifts, which the game blocks entirely. These are items inappropriate or harmful to that character. Dell, Dozy, Henrietta, Luc, and Maple, for example, cannot receive alcohol or caffeine items at all.

Romanceable characters: best gifts at a glance

The table below covers the top loved gifts for each of the 10 standard romance candidates. The two secret options, Caldarus and Seridia, follow in their own section.

Non-romanceable villagers: quick gift tips

Beyond the 12 romance candidates, Mistria has a full cast of non-dateable villagers. Building friendship with them still unlocks dialogue and rewards. A few standouts:

  • Darcy loves Chocolate, Golden Egg, Golden Cow Milk, and Sugar. Keep caffeine and alcohol away entirely.
  • Dell wants Chocolate, Golden Cookies, Ice Cream Sundae, and Jam Sandwich. Also cannot receive alcohol or caffeine.
  • Errol appreciates White Wine, Miners Mushroom Stew, Pan Fried Bream, and Perch Risotto. His hated item is a Hard Boiled Egg.
  • Hemlock is all about spice and alcohol: Beer, Chilli Coconut Curry, Hot Toddy, and Incredibly Hot Pot are loved. He hates Newt.
  • Terithia wants seafood exclusively: Lobster Roll, Perch Risotto, Seafood Boil, and Sushi Platter are loved. Her hated item is Fiber.
  • Wheedle craves rare gems and gold: Ancient Gold Coin, Perfect Diamond, Perfect Emerald, Perfect Ruby, and Perfect Sapphire are all loved. His hated item is a Criminal Confession.
  • Zorel keeps it simple with Middlemist, Sunflower, Heather, and Morel Mushroom. His hated item is a Cicada.

What gifts work across multiple characters?

Some items appear on multiple loved lists, making them efficient to stock:

  • Sushi Platter is loved by March, Reina, Valen, Caldarus, and Taliferro. Crafting a batch covers multiple relationships at once.
  • Pumpkin Pie is loved by Adeline, Eiland, Hayden, and Caldarus.
  • Spell Fruit Parfait is loved by Eiland, Juniper, Reina, Caldarus, and Seridia.
  • Golden Cookies are loved by Eiland, Juniper, Ryis, Caldarus, and several non-romanceable villagers.
  • Crystal Rose is loved by Balor (liked), Celine, and Juniper.

Focusing your cooking sessions around these overlap items stretches your daily gifting further without needing to prepare a different dish for every single visit.
