Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2026 update dropped on October 1, and it brought one of horror's most recognizable faces to the island. Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street is now a playable threat, and his signature weapon, Freddy's Nightmare, is one of the most distinctive melee items added to Fortnite in recent memory. Here's everything you need to know about getting it and making it work.
Where to Find Freddy's Nightmare
There are two ways to get your hands on Freddy's Nightmare, and the method you choose depends on how much risk you want to take on.
Floor loot and chests
The easier route is to treat it like any other legendary item. Freddy's Nightmare appears as floor loot and inside standard loot chests, including Pumpkin Chests, scattered across the Chapter 7 Season 4 map. Named POIs like Wonkeeland and the newly added Freaky Fields are solid spots to check. After testing multiple matches across these locations, Freaky Fields tends to produce the glove more consistently, though nothing is guaranteed with floor loot RNG.
Defeating the Freddy Krueger boss
The guaranteed drop method is to eliminate the Freddy Krueger boss himself. He spawns at the Nightmare Neighborhood POI on the Battle Royale island. You'll know you're close when slow, ominous music starts playing. That's your cue to get ready.
The boss is immediately hostile on sight and has a few tricks that make him genuinely annoying to fight. His Living Nightmare ability fires a red scanning pulse that traps you inside a 40-meter-wide red zone for up to 20 seconds. Once you're inside, only players caught in the nightmare can damage each other. Nobody outside the area can interfere, which means you're in a contained 1v1 with Freddy while your teammates watch helplessly.

His melee combo deals 45, 50, and 55 damage on consecutive hits, so three clean strikes will chunk a full health bar significantly. Stay at range and use weapons like the Bonerattler SMG or the Woodstake Shotgun to whittle him down. Once his health hits zero, he drops the legendary Freddy's Nightmare glove along with ammo and consumables.
How to Use Freddy's Nightmare
Equipping Freddy's Nightmare transforms your character into Freddy Krueger visually, which is a nice touch. The weapon has two distinct functions.
Primary attack: slashing combo
Left-clicking performs a 3-hit melee combo dealing 45, 50, and 55 damage on each respective strike. The combo is straightforward but lands hard when you close the gap on a low-health enemy. The Deer Sprite pairs well here since it boosts melee damage output across the board.
Secondary ability: Living Nightmare
Right-clicking activates Living Nightmare, the same red pulse ability Freddy uses against you. It pulls every enemy within 40 meters into your red zone and traps them there for 20 seconds. Inside the zone, only you and the pulled enemies can damage each other. You can also teleport to a random trapped enemy and disguise yourself as their equipped skin, which creates some genuinely disorienting moments for opponents.
The cooldown is 30 seconds, but it resets early if you eliminate all players caught inside the nightmare. Chain eliminations efficiently and you can cycle the ability faster than the base timer suggests.

Is Freddy's Nightmare worth using?
For a melee weapon, the mobility bonuses alone make Freddy's Nightmare worth picking up even if you never intend to use Living Nightmare. Faster sprinting and higher jumps are useful in any match, and the combo damage is respectable at close range.
The real value is in Living Nightmare as a fight-closer. Pulling multiple enemies into a zone where outside interference is blocked turns a chaotic multi-squad situation into a controlled fight. The teleport-and-disguise mechanic adds a layer of unpredictability that most players won't be prepared for the first time they encounter it.
The 30-second cooldown is the main limitation. If you burn Living Nightmare and don't get an elimination, you're sitting on a melee weapon with no special ability for half a minute while enemies at range can freely shoot you. Keep a ranged weapon in your loadout as a backup.
