Illfonic dropped patch 1.020 for Halloween: The Game on October 27, and it's the biggest update since launch. The Tower Farm Terror content drop brings a brand-new free map, a new starting weapon, two purchasable Civilians, two Michael Myers skins, and a wave of balance changes that touch almost every system in the game.
Quick Answer: The Tower Farm map and Scythe weapon are both free to earn through play. The Halloween 5 Michael skin ($9.99) unlocks the Scythe immediately as an alternative to grinding the Progressive Challenges.

What is the Tower Farm map?
Tower Farm is a harvest festival setting built around farm houses, old barns, cornfields, and irrigation structures at the intersection of several county roads. The open road crossings between buildings leave Civilians exposed, so cover management matters more here than on tighter maps. Roadside ditches and farmhouse outbuildings give you somewhere to break line of sight during a chase.
The map ships with a new sewer escape route exclusive to Tower Farm. It's available in both Matchmaking and Private Matches from day one. If you want a full picture of every exit option across all maps, the Halloween: The Game all escape routes guide has you covered.
How do you unlock the Scythe?
The Scythe is a new Starting Weapon added in patch 1.020. Two paths unlock it:
- Complete the new Scythe Progressive Challenges (free, takes time)
- Purchase the Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers skin ($9.99), which unlocks the Scythe immediately
You can also pick the Scythe up as a found weapon inside Tower Farm matches before you've unlocked it permanently.
New Civilians: Eugene Kelly and Michelle Blanton
The Civilian Pack 1 ($9.99) adds two new playable Civilians, each with a distinct Unique Trait.
| Civilian | Unique Trait | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Eugene Kelly | Lurker | Staying in stealth bushes increases stalk degradation and stamina regen |
| Michelle Blanton | Therapeutic | Using a healing item heals nearby wounded Civilians and Residents for 25% of the item's application amount |
Eugene is a self-described D&D nerd working at a video rental place, timid enough that Michael tends to overlook him. His Lurker trait rewards patience in bush cover with faster stamina recovery and reduced stalk build-up, making him strong for players who prefer evasion over confrontation.
Michelle's Therapeutic trait turns every personal heal into a small area heal for teammates. The 25% secondary heal is passive and automatic, so she naturally supports grouped Civilians without needing to change how you play.
New Michael Myers skins
Two new premium Michael skins launched alongside the update, each priced at $9.99:
- Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers skin, depicting Michael after waking from his year-long coma. Purchasing this skin immediately unlocks the Scythe as a Starting Weapon.
- Halloween (2018) Michael Myers skin, based on The Shape recently escaped from Smith's Grove. The mask design for this skin was supervised by Christopher Nelson, who sculpted the masks for the recent film series.
A Civilian Costumes Pack is also available for $9.99. It includes 14 Halloween costumes, one per existing Civilian character, with 42 total tints.
How to earn the Jack Ghoul Goggles
A limited-time cosmetic challenge is live through November 3 at 10 AM PT. Log in and smash 50 pumpkins with weapons to unlock the 'Jack' Ghoul Goggles Civilian cosmetic. The challenge is free for all players who own the game.
What changed with Resident and Special Target discovery?
This is the most strategically significant change in patch 1.020. Previously, Residents and Special Targets were marked on the map from the start of a match. Now, both sides build map information gradually.
For Civilians: Resident areas are hidden at match start and only appear as you get physically close to them. Each Resident you convince expands your discovery range and marks one additional Special Target. If enough Residents die or escape, the remaining Special Targets get marked automatically.
For Michael: Target information unlocks in tiers as Bloodthirst increases.
| Bloodthirst tier | What gets revealed |
|---|---|
| Tier 0 | No target areas shown |
| Tier 1 | 1 random Resident area |
| Tier 2 | 50% of Resident areas + 1 Special Target area |
| Tier 3 | All remaining Residents and Special Targets, plus Special Target beams |
The practical effect: early matches feel slower and more exploratory. Michael can't beeline straight to Special Targets at Tier 0. Civilians can't pre-plan efficient routes from the lobby. Both sides have to play reactively until they earn more information.
The mistake most players make early on is treating this like the old system and wandering the map waiting for icons to appear. Actively convincing Residents is now your fastest way to build map knowledge as a Civilian.

Michael's Group Rage scaling
Patch 1.020 adds a new combat buff for Michael when he's surrounded by 3 or more targets simultaneously. The buff scales with the number of nearby targets and increases:
- Damage output
- Bloodthirst gain rate
- Damage resistance
- Status Effect resistances
This directly punishes the strategy of multiple Civilians rushing Michael together. Trust me on this one: coordinated pile-ons were already risky, and this change makes them significantly more dangerous. Groups of 3+ Civilians should think twice before converging on Michael at the same time.

Progressive Challenge reductions across the board
Almost every Civilian and Killer Progressive Challenge had its completion count reduced. The cuts are significant: challenges that previously required 80 completions often dropped to 30 or 50. Solo-escape challenges dropped from 15 to 5 in several cases.
Here's a sample of the bigger reductions:
- Alexis - Helping Hand: 80 → 30
- Bob - Batter Up: 30 → 15
- Laurie - Not On My Watch: 90 → 50
- 1978 Michael - Systematic Hunter: 30 → 15
- Samhain Michael - Harvest Moon: 90 → 15 (Bloodthirst Level 3 reach)
- Scorched Michael - Ash and Ruin: 150 → 25 (Bloodthirst Level 2 reach)
Weapon challenges received the same treatment. The Hatchet's Wood Splitter challenge dropped from 150 to 50 locked doors destroyed. Kitchen Knife's Cut the Cord dropped from 225 to 100 phones destroyed.
If you've been stuck on a long Progressive Challenge grind, patch 1.020 likely just cut your remaining work significantly.
