Overview
Lord of Mysteries is an RPG developed and published by SPARK NEXA, based on the wildly popular web novel of the same name, officially licensed from author Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. The game is set in a dark, gaslight fantasy world that blends Victorian-era aesthetics with occult horror, secret orders, and a layered magic system built around mysterious "Sequences" of power. Players navigate the city of Tingen and beyond, uncovering conspiracies that stretch far deeper than any single faction or street-level mystery.
The source novel has tens of millions of followers across Chinese web fiction platforms, making this one of the more anticipated licensed RPG adaptations in recent memory. SPARK NEXA is bringing it to Android, iOS, and Windows, positioning it as a cross-platform RPG experience accessible to a broad audience.
World and setting: what makes Tingen City worth exploring?
The world of Lord of Mysteries is not your typical high-fantasy backdrop. The setting is closer to a supernatural thriller dressed in Victorian clothing, where gas lamps flicker over streets patrolled by both ordinary constables and agents of shadowy organizations. The novel's worldbuilding is famously dense, with a mythology that rewards close reading, and the game leans into that atmosphere directly.
The storyline framing gives a clear sense of the tone: characters face unseen battles, shoulder dangers together, and protect a city that most of its inhabitants don't realize is under constant threat. That premise, cooperation under pressure in a world full of hidden forces, translates naturally to RPG structure.

Key elements shaping the world:
- Secret societies with competing agendas
- A Sequence-based supernatural progression system
- Victorian gaslight city environments
- Occult horror woven into everyday life
- Lore directly adapted from the source novel
Gameplay and mechanics
As an RPG adaptation of a novel-driven property, Lord of Mysteries is expected to place significant weight on narrative progression and character development. The Sequence system from the source material, which governs how characters ascend through ranks of supernatural ability by consuming specific potions and fulfilling pathway requirements, is one of the novel's most distinctive features and a natural fit for RPG mechanics.
The cross-platform release on Android, iOS, and Windows suggests a design built for accessibility, with controls and interfaces adapted for both touchscreen and traditional PC input. SPARK NEXA has not detailed every mechanical system publicly, but the foundation of the source material gives the game a richer starting point than most original RPG properties.

Impact and legacy: does the source material matter?
For players unfamiliar with the novel, Lord of Mysteries sits comfortably in the dark fantasy RPG space alongside games that prioritize lore depth and atmospheric storytelling over pure action spectacle. For fans of the source material, this is the first major game adaptation of a work that many consider among the best Chinese web novels ever written.
The official license from Cuttlefish That Loves Diving matters here. Unlicensed or loosely adapted games based on popular IP often strip out the nuance that made the original compelling. A properly licensed adaptation has both the legal standing and the creative obligation to get the details right, and the novel's dedicated fanbase will hold SPARK NEXA to that standard. Lord of Mysteries arrives on PC and mobile as a story-driven RPG with one of the most distinctive supernatural settings in modern web fiction behind it.
