Monster Hunter Stories 3 Guide: How to Unlock Fast Travel

Fast travel in Monster Hunter Stories 3 makes exploring the game world much easier. Instead of riding across large regions repeatedly, players can instantly move between previously discovered locations using Catavan Stands.

However, fast travel is not available right away. Players will encounter Catavan Stands early in the game, but they cannot use them until a specific point in the main story. This guide explains how to unlock fast travel in Monster Hunter Stories 3, how to use it, and how to unlock additional fast travel points across the map.

How to Unlock Fast Travel

Fast travel becomes available shortly after progressing through the early part of the main story. Players must first defeat a key monster before the feature becomes usable.

To unlock fast travel, follow these steps:

  1. Defeat Honed Glavenus during the main story quest.

  2. Speak with Simon, the protagonist’s close companion.

  3. Use the Catavan Melynx to return to Azuria Castle.

After completing these story events, fast travel becomes permanently available. At this point, Catavan Stands around the world can be used to move between discovered locations.

Because this unlock happens fairly early in the story, players will gain access to fast travel before exploring most of the game’s major regions.

How Fast Travel Works

Once unlocked, fast travel can be used through the fast travel map or through Catavan Stands scattered throughout the world.

To use fast travel:

  1. Open the Fast Travel Map by pressing N on keyboard or the left D-Pad on a controller.

  2. Select a location that has already been discovered.

  3. Confirm the destination and choose Day or Night, depending on the monsters players want to encounter.

  4. After a short loading screen, the player arrives at the selected location.

Choosing the time of day can be helpful when hunting specific monsters or gathering certain materials, since many creatures only appear during either daytime or nighttime.

Players should also note that fast travel works through the fast travel map only, not the standard world map.

How to Unlock Fast Travel Points

Fast travel only works with locations that have already been activated. These points are usually found while progressing through the story or exploring new areas.

Players can unlock additional fast travel points by doing the following:

  • Visiting new camps and settlements while progressing through the story

  • Interacting with Catavan Stands when they are discovered

  • Clearing enemy threats by defeating the Feral Monster guarding a camp

Once activated, these locations will appear on the fast travel map and can be used anytime.

Why Fast Travel Is Important

Monster Hunter Stories 3 features large zones filled with monsters, side quests, gathering points, and hidden dens. Traveling across these areas on foot or by riding a Monstie can take time, especially when returning to earlier regions.

Using fast travel helps players:

  • Return to quest hubs quickly

  • Farm monsters and materials faster

  • Revisit earlier areas for eggs or resources

  • Switch between regions without long travel times

Because of this, it is recommended to activate every Catavan Stand encountered during exploration. This ensures more fast travel options later in the game.

Unlocking fast travel early in Monster Hunter Stories 3 saves a lot of time during the main story and while completing side content. Once Honed Glavenus is defeated and the Catavan system becomes available, players can move freely between discovered locations and focus more on hunting monsters and collecting rare eggs.
