Where to Find Skull Girl in Moonlight Peaks

Moonlight Peaks hides one of its most emotionally charged storylines behind a series of missable encounters that the game never explains. Skull Girl, a mysterious figure wearing a paper bag mask with two holes cut out for eyes, appears briefly in the woods and then vanishes. Most players assume she's gone for good. She's not. Bringing her into town as a permanent resident takes 4 separate encounters spread across two locations, and every single one is gated behind prerequisites the game keeps completely quiet.

What most players miss about finding Skull Girl

The entire Skull Girl questline is tied to Persephone, the matriarch of the Hendersons family. You can't brute-force these encounters by just wandering the map. Each one requires completing specific quests or reaching certain heart levels with Persephone first. Skipping any step means the next encounter simply won't trigger, which is why so many players get stuck after the second meeting.

Here's a quick overview of all 4 encounters before breaking each one down:

These encounters don't stack. Each one must fully resolve before the next can trigger. Don't rush to the next location without confirming the previous cutscene has played.
First meeting in Moonlit Pines

First meeting in Moonlit Pines

Encounter #1: The first meeting in Moonlit Pines

Before this cutscene fires, you need to have completed the Farm Animals for Sale quest, which involves building the Barn for Luna at your base. A few days after that's done, head to Moonlit Pines and the scene triggers automatically.

Skull Girl appears wearing her mask, tells you she has no name, and claims she's hideous. When you approach, she panics and runs. That's it for encounter one. Short, but it sets up everything that follows.

Encounter #2: She's cold, hungry, and alone

The night after your first meeting, the Hendersons family moves into town. This kicks off A New Beginning, a quest that asks you to bring Fried Eggs to Ludo. Once that quest wraps up, wait one in-game day and return to Moonlit Pines.

This second cutscene is heavier. Skull Girl tells you she's cold, hungry, and alone, and that she used to have a mom who hugged her but can't remember her anymore. You hug her, she runs again.

tip
The Hendersons moving in is what triggers A New Beginning, so make sure you've actually completed Encounter #1 first. The family won't arrive until after that first meeting.
Encounter #3 in Howling Marshes

Encounter #3 in Howling Marshes

Encounter #3: Into the Howling Marshes

This is where the questline shifts from passive observation to active relationship-building. To unlock Encounter #3, you need to complete Persephone's 1 Heart and 2 Heart Events.

  • Persephone 1 Heart Event: Persephone confides in Jada that she believes she might find her lost daughter in this town.
  • Persephone 2 Heart Event: Persephone asks for your help investigating rumors about a strange girl in Moonlit Pines. After searching, you find Skull Girl's Bag in a clearing.

Once both events are done, wait a day and travel to the Howling Marshes. The cutscene here shows Skull Girl without her mask for the first time, freezing in the cold. She tells you she's a monster, then runs off again.

Gifting Persephone the right items is the fastest way to push through her heart levels. Check out the Moonlight Peaks Guides for gift recommendations and other character relationship tips.

warning
If you go to Howling Marshes before completing both of Persephone's first two heart events, nothing will happen. The encounter is locked until those story beats resolve.

Encounter #4: The reunion that changes everything

The final encounter requires completing Persephone's 3 Heart and 4 Heart Events, and these are the most story-dense of the bunch.

  • Persephone 3 Heart Event: Inside the Hendersons' House, Persephone and Jada discuss whether Skull Girl might be Penelope, Persephone's missing daughter. Jada produces Pookie, a plushie that Penelope loved as a child, and gives it to you to show Skull Girl at your next meeting.
  • Persephone 4 Heart Event ("Reunited"): Back in Moonlit Pines, you meet Skull Girl again and show her Pookie. She recognizes it immediately. She agrees to come with you to meet Persephone, and the scene shifts to the Hendersons' House where Persephone confirms that Skull Girl is indeed Penelope, her daughter. They hug. The arc closes.

What happens after the Reunited event?

Once the Reunited cutscene concludes, Skull Girl (now confirmed as Penelope) takes up permanent residence inside the Hendersons' House. From that point forward, you can visit her, chat, and give her gifts exactly like any other town resident. She stops being an elusive forest encounter and becomes a full NPC with her own schedule.

This also opens up the possibility of working toward her personal storyline and, depending on how far you push her relationship meter, potentially unlocking related achievements. The Moonlight Peaks Trophy List guide covers which milestones are tied to character relationships if you're aiming for full completion.

How to speed up Persephone's heart events

Encounters #3 and #4 both require pushing Persephone's relationship meter, and doing that efficiently comes down to consistent gifting. The heart events themselves trigger automatically once you hit the required level, so the only variable you control is how fast you get there.

Focus your gift-giving on Persephone specifically during the stretch between Encounters #2 and #3. Every day you spend gifting other characters instead is a day you're delaying the Skull Girl storyline. If you're playing through simulation games like this one for the first time, it's easy to spread attention too thin across the whole cast.

tip
Heart events in Moonlight Peaks trigger the morning after you reach the required relationship level. If you hit Persephone's 2 Heart threshold late in the day, the event will play the following morning, not immediately.
