Named after Winston Smith, the protagonist who challenges totalitarian rule, 6079 embodies the “free think” movement. In Nodeshifter XP, players engage in a global struggle for control over the global intelligence network (g.i.n.). This network derives power from the World Mind, an AI entity supported by twelve genesis nodes around the globe. These nodes, maintained by The Collective—a group of dedicated humans—ensure the harmonious operation of the World Mind and the symbiotic relationship between humans and AI.

However, this balance is threatened by Colonel Panik, a rogue commander aiming to seize control of the genesis nodes and the World Mind.
