About A16z Speedrun
Speedrun focuses on startups building in artificial intelligence and interactive experiences. Eligible projects span AI-powered tools, entertainment and gaming ventures, and other innovations at the intersection of technology and user engagement. Competition is fierce — less than 1% of applicants make it in. Accepted teams receive investment capital, direct mentorship from a16z's team, networking access to industry veterans, and connections to alumni from past cohorts.
Over $100 Million Since 2023
Since launching in 2023, a16z has funneled over $100 million into more than 120 startups through Speedrun, backing emerging companies in AI and interactive tech. The most recent cohort, SR004, drew over 6,000 applications and selected 42 companies. Of those, 69% were AI-native startups working across commerce, development, and storytelling. Founders came from Canada, Israel, Turkey, London, and Sweden, among other countries, underscoring the program's global appeal.
Josh Lu, Principal at a16z, describes Speedrun as built for founders defining the future of their industries, not chasing existing trends. Beyond capital, the program delivers access to a16z's network, hands-on guidance, and a community of entrepreneurs tackling similar challenges. The goal is to help startups sharpen their vision, scale effectively, and set themselves up for sustained growth.
