Nvidia unveils RTX Spark laptop chip for AI and gaming

Nvidia has officially confirmed which laptop makers will be first to market with RTX Spark hardware this fall. The list reads: Asus, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, and MSI. That is the first wave. Acer and Gigabyte are confirmed participants too, just on a separate, later timeline.

Here's the thing: none of this is particularly shocking if you were paying attention at Computex back in June. Those six launch partners were already announced when RTX Spark was first revealed, so the real news here is the explicit confirmation that Acer and Gigabyte are in the ecosystem at all, with their own devices arriving after the initial batch hits shelves.

Why the Surface is probably crossing the finish line first

Of all the launch partners, Microsoft Surface is the one to watch for the first device out the door. RTX Spark was most frequently shown running on the Surface Laptop Ultra during Computex demonstrations, which signals where Nvidia and Microsoft's promotional energy has been directed. MSI and Asus will hold the distinction of being the first Taiwanese brands to ship Spark machines, but the Surface has the head start in terms of public exposure.

The chip itself is a significant move for Nvidia. RTX Spark is the company's first consumer-facing Arm-based SoC that combines CPU and GPU in a single package, targeting both AI workloads and actual gaming performance. Nvidia has publicly claimed 100 fps at 1440p in recent titles, and early hands-on sessions playing Alan Wake 2's native Arm build have backed up that optimism to a degree. The key here is whether those numbers hold across a wider range of games and TDP configurations once retail hardware is in reviewers' hands.

RTX Spark performance claims are based on native Arm builds. Games without Arm-native versions may perform differently, so you'll want to keep an eye on compatibility lists as the launch window approaches.

What the Acer and Gigabyte delay actually means

Being in the second wave is not a death sentence for Acer or Gigabyte. If anything, there is an argument that launching after the initial six gives both brands a chance to see how the platform performs in the wild before committing their own designs to retail. The MSI Prestige N16 Flip AI+ is one early Spark machine that has already generated real interest, specifically because of how thin the chassis is relative to what the chip is promising on the performance front.

That form factor question is the one that will define this platform. Slim productivity-leaning machines running games at high settings would represent a genuine shift from the current gaming laptop market, where meaningful performance still tends to require meaningful bulk. Acer and Gigabyte both have track records with thinner gaming and creator-focused designs, so their eventual Spark entries could be worth the wait.

DLSS 5 is also landing this fall

The RTX Spark laptop rollout is not the only fall 2026 hardware story worth tracking. Nvidia also used SIGGRAPH 2026 to pull back the curtain further on DLSS 5, specifically the controls developers will have over the AI filter. Right now, the implementation centers on two main sliders, with Nvidia working on expanding the toolset for developers over time. The subsurface scattering improvements on environmental objects are visually noticeable, even with the current limited controls.

Both RTX Spark laptops and DLSS 5 are targeting the same fall window, which means the end of 2026 is shaping up to be a dense period for PC gaming hardware. Affordability will be the practical filter for most players, given where component costs sit right now.

For a broader look at what is worth playing on the hardware you already own, the gaming guides cover the titles making the most of current-generation specs. If you are curious about what games are pushing Arm-native performance right now, the Undead Blocks beginner strategies guide and other titles in that space offer a useful look at where mobile-adjacent platforms are heading. Keep watching for hands-on game reviews as RTX Spark retail units start reaching outlets this fall.
