New Horror Game Baptiste Has Released a ...

"There's nothing worse than a puppet that has had its switch set to evil."

That sentence basically writes the entire pitch for Baptiste, an upcoming psychological horror game that just dropped a new trailer, and honestly, it delivers exactly what the premise promises. A cursed doll locked in a dusty cabinet. A grieving family that makes the one decision they absolutely should not make. And then, predictably, everything falls apart.

The setup that horror fans will recognize immediately

The story follows Tom, a boy still processing a family tragedy, who has relocated to Jagged Shore Cliff with his mother for what is supposed to be a fresh start. Remote location, isolated house, oppressive atmosphere. You already know where this is going.

The pair stumbles across a cabinet containing a doll that comes with a very clear warning: do not release it. They release it. From there, the game shifts into a story-driven psychological horror experience where Tom must navigate supernatural threats, uncover dark secrets, and solve puzzles while staying ahead of whatever force has been unleashed.

Here's the thing: the "cursed object with a warning label" setup is one of horror's oldest tricks, but Baptiste leans into it without apology. The trailer sells atmosphere over jump scares, with suffocating darkness and a slow-burn dread that feels closer to Silent Hill than a standard haunted house romp.

tip
Baptiste is currently confirmed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. No release date has been announced yet.

What the trailer actually shows

The footage leans hard into psychological horror territory. There are glimpses of the doll in various unsettling configurations, environments that shift between mundane and deeply wrong, and a visual style that prioritizes shadow and negative space over gore.

Tom's vulnerability as a protagonist comes through clearly. He is not a trained fighter or a hardened survivor. He is a kid dealing with grief, now also dealing with something genuinely supernatural, which gives the horror a different texture than most genre entries. The key here is that the game is framing its scares through emotional loss as much as through monsters.

For players who have spent time hunting down collectibles in horror games, the doll-centric premise will feel familiar in the best way. If you have worked through something like the Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake twin dolls collection guide, you already know how effectively these games use dolls as both collectibles and sources of genuine unease.

A strong horror season shaping up

Baptiste is arriving into a surprisingly packed horror release window. The Sinking City 2 recently launched for players hungry for Lovecraftian dread. Halloween: The Game is set to let players stalk Haddonfield in September. Silent Hill Townfall is bringing Scottish horror to screens soon. A new Hellraiser game lands in October. Neverway is doing something genuinely strange by mixing farming sim mechanics with existential horror.

What most players miss when looking at a lineup like this is how different each entry actually is in tone and mechanical approach. Baptiste sits in the psychological, story-driven corner of that spectrum, closer to a walking horror experience with puzzle elements than an action-survival game. That positioning could work strongly in its favor given how crowded the action-horror space is getting.

The doll subgenre specifically has had a strong run in gaming. Puzzle-based doll mechanics have shown up everywhere from Little Nightmares to Phasmophobia's event content. If you want to test your tolerance for unsettling doll encounters before Baptiste arrives, the Phasmophobia Alan Wake event doll puzzle guide is a solid warm-up.

No release date, but the atmosphere is already doing work

Baptiste has no confirmed launch window beyond a general 2026 target. For a horror game, that is not necessarily a problem. The genre rewards patience, and a trailer this focused on tone over spectacle suggests the developers know what kind of game they are making.

Pro tip: keep Baptiste on your wishlist now before the horror season gets loud and it gets buried under bigger releases. For more horror and genre coverage as the release calendar fills out, the full gaming guides hub has you covered on the titles already out.
