Biggest Xbox Game Releases Coming in September 2026

September has arrived, and Xbox players are staring down one of the most stacked release months in recent memory. Over 80 games are confirmed to drop on Xbox this month alone, ranging from long-awaited RPGs to sports annuals, horror experiences, and a remaster that players have been requesting for years.

The headliners you need to know about

The month kicks off hard. The Blood of Dawnwalker arrives on September 3, and it's arguably the most anticipated new IP of the season. Set in 14th-century Europe, you play as Coen, a man split between humanity and vampirism depending on the time of day. The premise alone separates it from the crowded action RPG field, and the open-world structure promises a story shaped by player choices and secrets uncovered across the run.

One day later, NBA 2K27 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword both land on September 4. The Onimusha revival has been a long time coming for fans of the original Capcom series, dropping players into a blood-soaked Kyoto as a samurai wielding an Oni Gauntlet against the Genma. If you're jumping in fresh, the NBA The Run best settings guide is worth checking out to get your audio and video dialed in before your first game.

September 8 brings two very different experiences. Halloween puts players either in Michael Myers' boots or on the run from him in a recreation of the 1978 original setting. On the same day, Mewgenics finally arrives on Xbox after making waves on PC. The roguelike tactics game from the creators of The Binding of Isaac tasks you with building a cat army through tactical breeding and genetic manipulation across generations. It sounds absurd. It plays brilliantly.

The back half of the month goes even harder

Mid-September delivers Dune: Awakening on September 22, the survival MMO set on Arrakis that's been building a dedicated community since its PC early access period. It joins Xbox Game Pass on the same day, which significantly lowers the barrier for players who've been curious but not committed.

Control Resonant follows on September 24, continuing the story of Dylan Faden in a warped Manhattan threatened by paranatural forces. Fans of Remedy's original Control will find familiar territory here, expanded with new abilities and a larger open environment.

Then comes the month's biggest legacy moment. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered drops on September 29, and this isn't a simple resolution bump. The remaster brings updated visuals, performance improvements, gameplay refinements, and includes both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. For players who never finished Geralt's story or want to revisit it with modern upgrades, this is the version to play.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 also hits on September 29, and EA Sports FC 27 arrives September 25 with its new street-meets-stadium playground mode.

What Game Pass subscribers are getting this month

Here's the lowdown for Game Pass holders: 11 confirmed titles are joining the subscription this September. The highlights include Shelldiver (September 1), Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault (September 2), RuneScape: Dragonwilds (September 15), Dune: Awakening (September 22), and Minecraft Dungeons 2 (September 29).

NHL 27 and EA Sports FC 27 are both available as 10-hour trials for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, which is a useful way to test the new features before committing to a full purchase.

tip
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage joins Game Pass on September 10, a move Sega announced with almost no prior buildup. Worth adding to your queue if you have any interest in the fighting game genre.

For players who enjoy simulation and management titles, Retro Rewind Video Store Simulator is another September arrival worth tracking. If that genre is new territory, the Retro Rewind beginner guide covers layout, staffing, inventory, and cash flow from day one.

The full September picture

What makes this month unusual isn't just the quality at the top. The sheer volume across every tier, from major multiplatform releases to smaller indie drops, means there's genuinely something landing almost every single day. Valheim 1.0 on September 9 marks the full release of a survival game that spent years in early access building one of the most passionate player communities in the genre. Graveyard Keeper 2 arrives September 22. Endless Legend 2 hits 1.0 on September 17.

For players who want to track what's worth their time across every genre this month, the full gaming guides hub has you covered as these titles start landing and the community verdict comes in.
