Brawl Stars: A reigning champion in the action-brawl genre

Brawl Stars achieved this remarkable milestone across both the iOS App Store and Google Play, marking it as Supercell's fourth title to reach the coveted $2 billion club. The accomplishment is a testament to the game's enduring popularity and its ability to engage players on a global scale.

Brawl Stars now stands as the highest-grossing Action > Brawl game, outshining competitors like One Piece Bounty Rush and Space Arena. The exclusive list of 53 apps and games in the $2 billion club includes renowned titles like Clash of Kings and Bingo Blitz. Moreover, within Supercell's portfolio, Brawl Stars joins the ranks of three other $2 billion mobile gaming giants: Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Hay Day.

Global appeal and strong performance

Brawl Stars' appeal knows no borders, as it has achieved impressive download and revenue figures across diverse markets. Over the past year (September 2022 - August 2023), the game recorded the highest downloads in Brazil, followed closely by Turkey and the United States, amassing a staggering 37 million downloads worldwide. This brings its total lifetime downloads to an impressive 376 million.

During the first half of 2023, Brawl Stars solidified its position as the second-highest-grossing Action > Brawl game globally, raking in an astounding $86.3 million in store revenue.

In terms of consumer spending, the United States emerged as the top contributor, with players pouring nearly $40 million into the game over the past year. South Korea followed closely with approximately $16.7 million in spending, showcasing the game's international appeal.

Strategic partnerships: The key to Brawl Stars' success

Brawl Stars' journey to the $2 billion milestone has been paved with strategic partnerships that have enhanced the player experience. Much like the successful approach taken by Stumble Guys, Brawl Stars has leveraged high-profile collaborations to keep players engaged and excited.

One standout example is the 2020 partnership with Line Friends, which introduced character-based Brawler skins and Line messenger sticker packs. This collaboration also extended into the physical world with the opening of a South Korean pop-up store, offering fans official merchandise and collectibles.

In 2019, Brawl Stars teamed up with Paris Saint-Germain, leading to the creation of the Brawl Stars Ball Cup—an esports event hosted at the iconic Parc des Princes. The partnership further evolved, bringing PSG-themed rewards to the game, delighting players and strengthening the connection between the virtual and real worlds.

Relevance to web3 gaming

The remarkable achievement of Brawl Stars in surpassing $2 billion in player spending is not only a triumph for the mobile gaming industry but also holds significant relevance for the emerging web3 gaming ecosystem. As we witness the convergence of blockchain technology, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and decentralized platforms, Brawl Stars' success serves as a compelling example of how traditional gaming titles continue to thrive.

The strategic partnerships and global appeal that propelled Brawl Stars to this milestone highlight the importance of player engagement, innovation, and cross-platform experiences—key principles that can seamlessly translate into the web3 gaming world. This achievement reaffirms the enduring potential of engaging gameplay and partnerships, offering valuable insights for developers and enthusiasts looking to navigate the evolving landscape of web3 gaming and its limitless possibilities.
