Bitkraft Ventures led the oversubscribed round, with backing from Play Ventures, Anthos Capital, and Offchain Labs. The funding will support development of a game that mixes traditional life sim mechanics with blockchain integration.

Smolbound: A Hybrid Life Sim RPG
Smolbound launches next year on the Treasure Layer-2 blockchain. Darkbright describes it as a hybrid between a life simulation and an RPG, set in an open, infinite world. Players can farm, explore, travel, and collect items across a whimsical, colorful fantasy setting. The studio calls it "a quirky marriage of Animal Crossing and Raft."
The game centers on user-generated content. Players can create and contribute to the in-game world, with blockchain tech allowing them to tokenize their creations and own in-game assets outright. Those assets can be traded or sold.
Despite the humor, Smolbound has narrative ambitions. "Don't let the humor fool you," Song said. "There's actually something much deeper going on in our story beneath the surface level, with the fate of several worlds at stake." The mix of irreverence, layered storytelling, player-driven economies, and blockchain ownership aims to carve out space in the crowded life sim genre.

Smolbound's blockchain integration focuses on player ownership. PurpleSnow, CEO of Darkbright Studios, frames it as shared ownership with the community. "For us, web3 shines in building next-generation live services. That is, shared ownership with users," Song explained.
This model lets players participate directly in the game's economy. Smolbound's web3 tools allow players to create in-game items, characters, and environments, then convert them into NFTs. Players can design clothing, houses, tools, or entire islands, then monetize those creations.
"You can define the functionality, personality, and even storylines of items you create," Song said. Players can profit from selling their work and from hosting events or interactions within the game.
