Faraway has announced the integration of HV-MTL (pronounced 'heavy-metal') NFTs into the web2 arena shooter Shatterline. After acquiring the HV-MTL IP from Yuga Labs, Faraway is adding new features to the game, including a $100,000 prize pool for PvE and PvP battles, tradable ecosystem rewards, and a revenue share program for content creators.

What is Shatterline?
Shatterline is a PC-based first-person shooter that has been in early access on Steam since 2022. The game is set for a full launch later this year. Developed by Frag Lab, it offers both PvP and PvE modes.
The early access servers will close on August 1st before the official release. The game will also launch on the Epic Games Store when it exits early access.

HV-MTL is a collection of 30,000 mechs with eight different power source types. Created by Yuga Labs, the mechs were part of the on-chain game HV-MTL Forge.
The game evolved from a pet simulation and world builder into a competitive dungeon crawler. Players could upgrade their mechs across multiple seasons to improve their abilities. These mechs are now being integrated into Shatterline's gameplay.

Faraway and Frag Lab started discussions in 2022 about integrating web3 elements into Shatterline. Frag Lab wanted to refine the core gameplay before adding these features. Early playtests of Shatterline influenced Faraway's decision to acquire the HV-MTL and Mara IP from Yuga Labs.
HV-MTL NFT owners will get power advantages in PvE expedition modes. The partnership will offer web3 rewards like tradable items, plus web2 rewards to appeal to a wider player base.

In an unofficial Discord post, Faraway's Chief Product Officer, everydayzukini, outlined several new features:
- Prize Pool Battles: Players can compete in PvE and PvP competitions with a starting prize pool of $100,000.
- Ecosystem Rewards: Top players will receive Faraway ecosystem rewards that can be minted and traded. All players can earn these regardless of NFT ownership.
- Revenue Share for Creators: A revenue share program will give top creators who bring players to the game 1% of net revenue.
- Spectator Fantasy Sports Feature: Spectators can pick and collect their favorite pro players in a fantasy draft. Both spectators and pro players earn rewards based on performance.
