Hazelight Studios' award-winning co-op game It Takes Two may be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 sooner than anyone expected. A document from Prowell Asia Holdings, a Chinese games distributor, lists an October 15, 2026 release date for the game on Nintendo's newest hardware. The document was spotted by Nintendo-focused outlet Nintendo Everything, and the details are specific enough to take seriously.
The listing doesn't just drop a date. It also confirms a physical release in cartridge form, though it'll be a game-key card rather than a traditional cart with the full game data baked in. The estimated file size clocks in at 12.1GB, which lines up with what you'd expect from a game of this scope running on Switch 2 hardware.
What this version would actually mean for players
Here's the thing: It Takes Two already launched on the original Nintendo Switch back in 2022, a year after its initial release across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. That version was playable, but Switch hardware limitations kept it from looking its best. A Switch 2 port changes that equation entirely.
The Switch 2's upgraded specs should push the game to noticeably better resolution and frame rates compared to the original Switch version. For anyone who's been holding off on playing it, or wants to revisit Cody and May's chaotic relationship repair arc with a friend on the couch, this could be the definitive portable version.
The game-key card format is worth flagging for collectors. You'll get a physical box, but the game data won't be on the cartridge itself. You're essentially buying a code in a box, which has become increasingly common for Switch titles with larger file sizes.
Hazelight's bigger picture right now
The timing of a Switch 2 port makes sense from EA's side. It Takes Two won Game of the Year at The Game Awards and has sold exceptionally well since launch. Porting it to Nintendo's new hardware is low-risk and high-reward, especially with the Switch 2's install base growing steadily through its first year.
On the studio side, Josef Fares confirmed earlier this year that Hazelight's next game is already in development, though it's still early days with around 130 pages of story ideas in place. Fares has since teased a few more details about what the next project might look like. A Switch 2 port of It Takes Two would keep the studio's existing work in the spotlight while the new game takes shape.
If October 15 holds, It Takes Two will have been available on every major current platform by the end of 2026. For a co-op game that requires two players, broader platform reach genuinely matters. More players means more people who can actually jump in with a friend.
No official announcement from EA or Hazelight has followed the distributor leak yet. If the October window is real, expect a formal reveal sometime in the next few weeks.
