Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition - Nintendo Switch™ 2 Announcement Trailer

Not every quarterly financial report is worth reading. Koei Tecmo's latest one is, at least if you own a Switch 2. Buried inside the company's financial update is a clear signal: the Japanese publisher intends to keep feeding Nintendo's new hardware with a steady stream of ports, remasters, and mid-range releases, and it has already started.

The key here is that this isn't a vague promise or a one-game commitment. Koei Tecmo has explicitly outlined a strategy to diversify revenue by mixing major releases with smaller titles, remasters, and hardware-specific ports. Switch 2 sits squarely in that plan.

What Koei Tecmo has already shipped and what's next

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is already on Switch 2, and the company also contributed to Pokemon Pokopia, which launched on the platform. That's a reasonable foothold, but the more interesting announcements are the ones still to come.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is confirmed for September, bringing the full soulslike experience, including all DLC content, to Switch 2 owners. A second unannounced title is slated to follow in early 2027. The company hasn't named that one yet, but the framing in the financial report suggests it won't be the last either.

For context on how demanding these ports can be, the FF7 Rebirth Switch 2 graphics vs performance breakdown gives a solid sense of what modern publishers are navigating when they bring technically demanding titles to the hardware.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition includes the base game and all three DLC expansions. The Switch 2 version is set to release in September, with a second Koei Tecmo title to follow in early 2027.

Why this matters beyond the Koei Tecmo catalog

The broader pattern here is worth paying attention to. Koei Tecmo is not a small studio making safe bets. The company manages multiple active franchises across Warriors games, Fatal Frame, and its Team Ninja output, and it has a history of reading platform momentum early.

The fact that Koei Tecmo is explicitly naming Switch 2 ports as a revenue strategy in a financial report signals genuine confidence in the platform's install base trajectory. Publishers don't commit to multi-year port schedules for hardware they expect to underperform.

Other developers are still weighing their options. The team behind Clair Obscur, for example, has expressed interest in a Switch 2 version but acknowledged the technical challenges involved. Koei Tecmo is clearly not in that camp. The company has already shipped titles, announced a September release, and flagged more for 2027.

The Switch 2 port wave is also pulling in games from very different genres. Phasmophobia is another title heading to the platform, and if you want the full picture on that one, the Phasmophobia Switch 2 announcement breakdown covers everything confirmed so far.

The Wo Long port is the one to watch this year

Of everything on Koei Tecmo's Switch 2 slate, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the most interesting test case. The game is a technically demanding soulslike with a large amount of content in its Complete Edition form. How well Team Ninja's engine translates to Switch 2 hardware will say a lot about what the company can realistically port going forward.

Dynasty Warriors games are relatively forgiving to port given their design. Wo Long is a different proposition entirely, with more demanding combat systems and denser environments. A clean Switch 2 version would open the door to even more ambitious ports from the company's catalog.

For anyone planning to pick up Wo Long this September, or just curious about what Switch 2 ports look like in practice, the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Switch 2 guide on what to expect before you buy is a useful reference point for setting expectations on a demanding port to the same hardware.
