Midnight Society Shuts Down and Discontinues DeadDrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio known for its work on the first-person shooter DeadDrop, has officially ceased operations. The closure comes shortly after the studio severed ties with popular gaming personality Dr. Disrespect, also known as Guy Beahm. The decision to part ways followed allegations that Beahm had engaged in inappropriate conversations with a minor while on Twitch, an issue that had remained largely undisclosed for years.

Allegations and Twitch Ban

Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch in 2020, but at the time, the platform did not disclose the reason, only stating that it was due to a violation of community standards. The lack of transparency led to speculation within the gaming community, but no official details emerged until mid-2024. In the summer of that year, a former Twitch employee came forward, alleging that Beahm had engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a minor through Twitch’s direct messaging system.

In response to these claims, Dr. Disrespect maintained that he had done nothing wrong. He pointed to his legal settlement with Twitch in 2022 as proof that the matter had been resolved. In a public statement, he said, “I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid.” However, the controversy surrounding the allegations persisted, prompting further scrutiny from the gaming community and industry professionals.

Midnight Society Ends Partnership

In June 2024, Midnight Society announced that it had conducted its own internal discussions and decided to cut ties with Dr. Disrespect. In an official statement, the company explained that after reviewing the situation and speaking with those involved, it could no longer maintain its association with Beahm. The studio stated, “We are terminating our relationship with Guy Beahm immediately. While these facts are difficult to hear and even more difficult to accept, it is our duty to act with dignity on behalf of all individuals involved, especially the fifty-five developers and families we have employed along with our community of players.”

The decision marked a significant turning point for Midnight Society, as Beahm had been a co-founder and a major public figure associated with the studio. The controversy not only impacted his personal brand but also had lasting consequences for the company itself.

DeadDrop is Officially Discontinued

Following the separation from Dr. Disrespect, Midnight Society struggled to maintain its momentum. The studio ultimately decided to shut down entirely, bringing an end to DeadDrop, the game it had been developing. The closure left many of its employees and community members uncertain about the future, as the project had gained a dedicated following.

Dr. Disrespect, despite the fallout, continues to stream on YouTube, maintaining his presence in the gaming industry. However, the long-term impact of these events on his career and Midnight Society’s legacy remains uncertain. The situation has also reignited conversations about accountability, transparency, and ethics within the gaming industry, highlighting the challenges that arise when allegations surface against high-profile figures.
