"As promised" carries a lot of weight in gaming. Rebel Wolves delivered on theirs. The Blood of Dawnwalker now has its first major patch live on PS5, and the scope of it is hard to ignore: over 1,100 fixes and improvements packed into a 12.882GB download.

The studio had already teased some of the highlights on social media last week, so the patch notes landing today don't come as a complete surprise. But seeing the full list makes clear just how much work went into this update.

The Draught of Mind Rebirth changes everything

The headline addition for players deep into the game is the Draught of Mind Rebirth, a new item that lets you wipe your Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism ability trees and redistribute all the time you spent learning them. Here's the thing: the game's time mechanic means every ability learned costs in-world days, so being locked into a build you regret felt genuinely punishing. This item fixes that.

It's the kind of quality-of-life addition that turns a good RPG into one people actually want to replay or experiment with.

A softer entry point for new players

The existing Story difficulty has been renamed Forgiving, and a brand-new Story mode has been added below it with additional combat assists. Rebel Wolves has also expanded subtitle settings, letting players increase font size and enable subtitles for every single dialogue line, not just cutscenes.

Small accessibility changes, but meaningful ones for a game with as much narrative density as this one.

Combat targeting and camera get a proper fix

Patch 1.1 addresses one of the more frustrating aspects of the launch experience: combat responsiveness. The update brings adjusted animations and camera movements during fights, improved targeting when locking onto and disengaging from enemies, and better responsiveness when using Shadowstep and Planeshift to attach to surfaces.

The patch also nerfs a specific cathedral courtyard guard who could one-shot Coen before level 30, which is the kind of fix that feels very specifically earned by players who ran into that wall.

Stability and infinite loading screens addressed

The stability section alone covers more than a dozen scenarios that caused infinite loading screens or black screens across specific quests, including "The Night of Horrors," "Home Sweet Home," and "A Hero's End." Multiple crashes tied to specific NPC interactions and ability uses have also been patched out.

Frame rate drops during the Bakir drain sequence and when targeting Shadowstep on complex surfaces are fixed too, which should help performance feel more consistent across the board.

Audio, art, and the small stuff

Beyond the big-ticket items, the patch covers a lot of ground that players notice even if they can't name it. Gheorghe now speaks in his own voice. Ursul's beard no longer vanishes mid-conversation. Combat music no longer bleeds into post-fight dialogue. The beehive exploit that provided infinite money is gone.

On the art side, lighting inconsistencies across multiple quests and locations have been cleaned up, character animations have been refined, and PS5-specific UI asset quality has been improved.

What this means for players waiting on the sidelines

If you picked up The Blood of Dawnwalker and set it down waiting for a more polished state, Patch 1.1 is the update that makes a strong case for jumping back in. The ability respec alone removes one of the bigger friction points for players who felt stuck in a suboptimal build.

For anyone still configuring their setup, the best console settings guide for PS5 and Xbox is worth checking before you load back in, especially with the FrameGen settings receiving a dedicated update in this patch.
