Morrowind is being ported into Elden ...

Two RPGs separated by 24 years and completely different studios should have no business sharing the same engine. Yet here we are, watching modder InfernoPlus make it happen anyway. His ongoing project to port Morrowind into ELDEN RING just got a fresh update, and the headline is equal parts daunting and exciting: he's calling it “the most complex mod ever created.”

What InfernoPlus actually built

In a new YouTube video, InfernoPlus broke down where the project currently stands. The good news comes right up front: "It's been some months since the last update, and we have made tremendous progress on the mod. Many things that I thought would be impossible have taken shape, and the game has entered a fairly playable state."

That's a significant shift from where things were when he first revealed the project back in 2025, describing himself as "about halfway done." Months of silence followed, which understandably had people wondering if the mod had quietly stalled.

It hasn't. The video shows functional combat, spells, and gear all operating inside FromSoftware's engine. Seeing Morrowind's systems running in the Lands Between is genuinely surreal, the kind of thing that makes you do a double-take at your screen.

The systems that had to be built from scratch

Here's the thing: Elden Ring is a soulslike game built around a very specific design philosophy. It does not have an arrest system. It does not have the crime-and-punishment framework that defines so much of The Elder Scrolls experience. Guards do not chase you down for stealing a sweetroll.

Morrowind, on the other hand, is built on exactly those kinds of systems. NPCs have schedules. Factions track your reputation. The world reacts to what you do in ways that FromSoftware's engine simply has no native framework for.

So InfernoPlus and his team had to build those systems themselves, from the ground up, through custom coding and scripting. That's not a small ask. That's essentially writing new game logic on top of a game that was never designed to support it.

Calling for reinforcements

New class, same Lands Between

New class, same Lands Between

With the scale of the work involved, InfernoPlus is not trying to finish this alone. The update video ends with a direct call for volunteers, specifically artists and voice actors, to join the project. Morrowind has a lot of NPCs. A lot of them talk. Getting that voiced in a new context is its own production challenge on top of everything else.

The ambition here is hard to overstate. This is not a texture swap or a map import. It's a full recreation of a Bethesda RPG's core systems inside a completely different game's engine, and the creator is still pushing forward.

"It's still got a ways to go before it's done, but what we have built here is actually really quite interesting," InfernoPlus says. That reads less like a hedge and more like genuine pride in what the team has pulled off so far.

Why this matters beyond the mod itself

The broader context here is hard to ignore. The Elder Scrolls 6 remains firmly in the distance, with no release date and very little concrete information about what it will actually be. Fans waiting for a new entry in that series are, to put it gently, patient people at this point.

A full Morrowind experience running inside Elden Ring's engine would give those fans something real to sink into while that wait continues. The two games share more DNA than you might expect, both built around open-world exploration, character builds, and a world that rewards curiosity. The execution styles are completely different, but the player instinct that draws people to both is the same.

For anyone tracking the project or looking to jump into the base game while waiting, our ELDEN RING strategy guides are a solid resource for navigating the Lands Between in the meantime. Keep an eye on InfernoPlus's YouTube channel for the next update.
