Nexus, a publicly owned South Korean game company, has acquired blockchain game developer Z5 Games, the studio behind the Immutable-based role-playing game Pixel Heroes Adventure. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Z5 Games joins Nexus

Z5 Games was founded by Kim Kang-soo, who previously served as producer of the web2 mobile title Dragon Village. Kim will join Nexus following the acquisition and is expected to oversee the design and execution of tokenomics for Nexus's games, a role the company describes as central to integrating blockchain-based economic systems across its portfolio.

What Z5 Games brings to the table

Pixel Heroes Adventure is a pixel-art MMO that combines collectible mechanics with both PvE and PvP content. The game runs on Immutable's zkEVM infrastructure and is available through the game's web portal and standard app stores. Z5's experience shipping a playable blockchain RPG with integrated token mechanics appears to be the primary reason Nexus pursued the acquisition.

Nexus's blockchain plans

Nexus is preparing to launch its own web3 role-playing game, R.O.H.A.N.2, which will run on the L1 Cross Protocol. Nexus operates the Cross Protocol alongside the Swiss Opengame Foundation, an organisation established to support an open blockchain gaming ecosystem. The studio positions R.O.H.A.N.2 as a flagship title in its roadmap, and the Z5 acquisition appears designed to support the launch and ongoing development of Cross-based projects.

What this means for Nexus

Nexus frames the Z5 acquisition as a way to strengthen its development capacity in blockchain RPGs and bring additional expertise in tokenomics into its production structure. Appointing an experienced producer to lead tokenomics initiatives suggests the company is prioritizing in-game economic design as it advances R.O.H.A.N.2 and Cross Protocol initiatives.

The full commercial and strategic impact will depend on how Nexus integrates Z5's teams and technology, along with product roadmaps and release timelines still to be disclosed. More information on R.O.H.A.N.2 and Nexus's Cross Protocol is available through the projects' public channels and official websites.
