What the numbers actually look like

From September 1, the Nintendo Switch 2 will rise from £395.99 to £419.99 on the Nintendo Store UK. That's a £24 increase, or roughly $33 in USD terms. In the Republic of Ireland, the same console moves from €469.99 to €499.99, a €30 bump.

The UK increase is actually smaller than what US buyers are absorbing. American Switch 2 owners are looking at a $50 hike, pushing the console to $499.99. Canada sees the same $50 increase in Canadian dollars, landing at $679.99 CAD. Mainland Europe's €30 rise mirrors Ireland exactly. Japan has already had its price adjustment take effect.

important
The September 1 deadline applies to the Nintendo Store UK and Nintendo Store Ireland specifically. If you're buying from a third-party retailer, check their pricing separately, as adjustments may vary.

Why Nintendo says prices are rising

Nintendo first flagged these increases back in May, giving customers several months of notice before the changes hit. The company cited "market conditions" and the "global business outlook" as the driving forces, and apologized for the need to raise prices at all.

Here's the thing: Nintendo isn't alone here. PlayStation, Xbox, and Valve have all raised hardware prices in recent years, pointing to the same pressures: shipping costs, tariffs, and component prices that keep climbing. The Switch 2 launching in 2025 at one price and then rising further into its lifecycle is unusual historically, but it's becoming the new normal across the industry.

The Switch 2 game library right now

If the price rise is nudging you toward buying sooner rather than later, the current game lineup gives you a decent reason to pull the trigger. Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokémon Pokopia, and the recently released Splatoon Raiders are all on the platform, with more exclusives on the way.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave arrives September 17, Switch Sports Resort follows on October 22, and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still expected before the end of the year. Looking further out, Xenoblade Genesis, Pokémon Winds, and Pokémon Waves are already confirmed for 2027. The full Switch 1 back-catalog is backwards compatible, so there's no shortage of things to play from day one.

One reason to wait: a new model might be coming

There is a counterargument to rushing the purchase. Reports have circulated about a revised Switch 2 model featuring an updated screen, potentially addressing the ghosting issues some players have noticed on the current hardware. Nothing is confirmed, but it's worth knowing that buying now doesn't necessarily mean buying the final form of the console.

Separately, leaked images of a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 bundle and Pro Controller surfaced earlier this month. A special edition console almost certainly won't land before September 1, but it could arrive shortly after, potentially giving the hardware a sales boost right as prices increase.

Phasmophobia is also confirmed for Switch 2 in 2026. If that's on your wishlist, our piece on Phasmophobia coming to Nintendo Switch 2 covers what's been confirmed about the port so far.

The window is short

Two weeks isn't a lot of time. If you're based in the UK or Ireland and have been planning to buy a Switch 2, the math is simple: buying before September 1 saves you £24 or €30 at the Nintendo Store. Whether a revised model or a special edition is worth waiting for is a personal call, but the current price won't stick around much longer.
