Pokémon TCG Pocket Is Sending Players on a Real-Life Team Rocket Mission

Team Rocket has always been about theatrics, and The Pokémon Company is leaning into that hard with a real-world event timed to the launch of the Team Rocket's Ambition expansion in Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The event is happening right now. August 22 and 23 at Potter's Fields Park in London, running 9 AM to 6 PM both days. Entry is free, which makes it one of the more accessible promotional events the franchise has put together in recent memory.

What actually happens at the event

The setup is built around a puzzle trail. Trainers work through a series of challenges to decode clues, which eventually reveal a secret code. That code unlocks access to a hidden location where players receive a direct message from Team Rocket's boss himself. Complete the whole thing and you walk away with honorary Team Rocket recruit status and a themed tote bag.

Here's the thing that makes this worth caring about even if you're not anywhere near London: every participant also receives a code for 24 Pack Hourglasses redeemable in Pokémon TCG Pocket. That's a meaningful amount of free currency timed perfectly to drop right as Team Rocket's Ambition launches next week.

tip
Pack Hourglasses are the in-game resource used to open card packs without spending Premium Passes, so 24 of them represents a solid head start on pulling from the new expansion set.

The expansion launching behind all of this

Team Rocket's Ambition arrives as the B4a expansion in Pokémon TCG Pocket next week. The set introduces Owner's Pokémon to the game for the first time, a mechanic that hasn't appeared in the digital card game before now. Fan favorites like Mewtwo, Persian, and Houndour are all confirmed for the set, which should make pulling from it feel rewarding even outside of competitive play.

The London event is clearly designed to build momentum heading into that launch, and the Pack Hourglass reward is a smart way to connect the real-world activation back to the actual game.

What most players miss with these promotional events is that the in-game reward codes often have expiry windows, so if you're attending this weekend, redeem that code sooner rather than later.

For players spending time across the broader Pokémon mobile ecosystem, Pokémon Pokopia has been pulling a lot of attention lately with its building and life-sim mechanics. If you want a breakdown of how it holds up, the in-depth review covers everything worth knowing. And if you're just getting started there, the Pokémon Pokopia mystery gift codes guide is worth bookmarking for free rewards.
