Sony has published the PlayStation Store download charts for July 2026, and the headline writes itself: Call of Duty: Black Ops II, a game released in 2012, finished #1 on the PS5 charts in both the U.S./Canada and EU regions. Its 2010 predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops, landed at #2 in both regions. That's a one-two punch from games that launched before the PlayStation 4 even existed.
The reason is straightforward. Activision shadow-dropped PS4 and PS5 ports of both classics on July 9, the first time either title has been playable on modern Sony hardware. Campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies all came along for the ride. Nostalgia, as it turns out, downloads extremely well.

What the rest of the chart tells you
EA Sports College Football 27 grabbed #3 in the U.S. and Canada but didn't appear in the EU top 20 at all, which makes complete sense for a sport that barely registers outside North America. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced took #4 in the U.S. and #3 in the EU after launching on July 9, adding chart performance to a remake that has already moved three million copies.
Palworld charted in both regions after exiting Early Access with its 1.0 update in July. Halo: Campaign Evolved cracked the top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic, which still reads like a weird sentence on a PlayStation chart. Co-op horror had a strong month too: Escape the Backrooms landed in the top 10 in both regions, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu appeared on both charts, and the EU squeezed in a second Backrooms title with Backrooms: Escape Together.
007 First Light is still hanging around from its May launch after a patch added new missions in July. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game showed up in the U.S. chart after its July 2 release. Echoes of Aincrad made a U.S.-only appearance.
The EU chart also found room for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Resident Evil 4, and Forza Horizon 5, the kind of evergreen titles that never fully leave the conversation.

The PS4 charts told a similar story. Call of Duty: Black Ops II took #1 in both regions there too, ending Red Dead Redemption 2's long run at the top of those charts. Rockstar's western slipped to #4 in the U.S./Canada and #3 in the EU.
On PlayStation VR2, I Am Cat clawed its way to #1 in both regions. Beat Saber dropped another spot in the U.S. following the end of official platform support.
Free-to-play was predictable in the best way. Roblox led the U.S. and Canada, Fortnite led the EU, and the two essentially swapped positions across the Atlantic. Marvel Rivals took #3 in the U.S. without appearing in the EU top 10.
