World of Warcraft: Forever has drawn the highest number of returning players in WoW history, Blizzard has announced, following its November 4 launch. The game is available now on PC and Mac.
The official Warcraft social account thanked players for the milestone, but Blizzard did not share an actual returning-player count. “This is all because of you, the players,” the company wrote. The record spans a series history stretching back to World of Warcraft's 2004 debut, more than two decades before Forever's launch.
Familiar Azeroth, a different direction
Forever is a new, permanent branch that runs alongside modern World of Warcraft and WoW: Classic. Its launch adds another version of Azeroth to choose from.
World of Warcraft: Forever's return to early Azeroth builds on the world as it existed in 2004, but introduces new content and races. Its alternate timeline takes place roughly a year before the original base game, with thousands of new quests and stories.

Questing in Forever's Azeroth
The design follows the original game's approach, with several changes that shape everyday play:
- Less handholding, with a stronger emphasis on risk and reward.
- Fewer convenience features that reduce in-game social interaction.
- Improved visual quality alongside slower, more methodical gameplay.
A separate team develops Forever from the one working on modern WoW. Forever's focus includes social systems and understated, environmental storytelling, keeping its priorities distinct from the modern game's emphasis on endgame content.
