Readyverse Studios, a publisher focused on games and digital worlds, has launched Promptopia, a new generative AI-powered creation tool. The announcement came during the Blockworks tech conference, Permissionless III, where Readyverse CEO Aaron McDonald demonstrated the platform's capabilities.

What is Promptopia?

Promptopia lets players create immersive environments using text prompts. The tool generates digital assets and environments through AI, turning simple text descriptions into game-ready objects, music, and complete environments. McDonald positioned it as a sandbox experience where players can materialize their ideas through an AI model.

Readyverse draws inspiration from Ernest Cline's Ready Player One franchise, which started as a 2011 novel before Steven Spielberg adapted it into a 2018 film. McDonald explained that the team wanted generative AI to feel native to gameplay rather than bolted on as a separate building mode. "We wanted to make the tools part of the game. That's how the idea of Promptopia came together," he said.

Promptopia operates within the larger Readyverse ecosystem, offering a metaverse-like experience similar to the world shown in Ready Player One. Players can customize avatars to match franchise characters or design something completely new. McDonald compared Readyverse to a launcher that connects various games, with Promptopia always accessible for casual fun or deeper creative sessions.

AI features and functionality

Promptopia merges multiplayer gameplay with real-time AI asset generation. Players build, share, and interact in worlds shaped by their own prompts. The AI technology collapses the traditional divide between creators and players, making environment design accessible to anyone who can type a description.

During the demo, McDonald showed off a personal lobby modeled after Aech's garage from Ready Player One. These spaces store items won in competitions or assets created and purchased by players. Arcade machines in the lobby transport users to worlds like Surreal Estate or Promptopia itself, where player-generated content drives the experience.

Power of IPs, branding and UGC

Promptopia's gameplay borrows mechanics from first-person shooter games. Players capture flags and control central consoles to modify environments on the fly, including changing music and spawning objects. "These objects are examples of what happens when you win the right to prompt the environment, like changing the sky," McDonald said.

Readyverse has integrated recognizable intellectual properties into the platform, including Reebok, Cool Cats, and DeLorean. Promptopia serves as an experimental game experience built around creative expression through gameplay. McDonald and cofounder Shara Senderoff see user-generated content as central to the Readyverse vision, giving players tools to realize their ideas in an immersive space.

The future of gaming with Promptopia

While tech giants experiment with AI applications, Promptopia embeds these capabilities directly into gameplay. The platform uses the "Altered State" Generative 3D model developed by Futureverse and the music AI platform JEN. Players create real-time, game-ready assets, environments, and soundtracks through text prompts alone. This opens up game creation to people without technical backgrounds.

Readyverse Studios was founded by Aaron McDonald, Shara Senderoff, Ernest Cline, and film producer Dan Farah. Promptopia's development spanned multiple years, focusing on AI models that encourage creativity while maintaining user safety. McDonald noted that the game structure draws from popular gameplay elements, including first-person shooter and capture-the-flag mechanics.

Final thoughts

McDonald said players will soon be able to wishlist the Readyverse experience. Closed testing is expected later this year, with open testing likely in 2025. The Readyverse environment will combine elements created by the company, players, and third-party developers, all built on open metaverse technology supported by a team of over 200 people.

Promptopia represents a significant step in integrating generative AI into gaming. By giving players tools to create and engage in dynamic digital worlds, Readyverse aims to redefine how creativity and collaboration work in immersive environments.
