Ronin and Ragnarok Monster World Part Ways

Ragnarok Monster World recently announced its expansion to Cross Protocol, a new blockchain platform, while also launching Season 4 of its game on Ronin. The announcement was met with confusion among the community due to the simultaneous promotion of two different platforms. Shortly after the news broke, representatives from Sky Mavis publicly addressed the matter, expressing concern over the direction taken by the Ragnarok development team.

About Ragnarok Monster World

Ragnarok Monster World is a play-to-earn (P2E) tower defense game that blends the classic elements of the beloved Ragnarok World with blockchain technology. Players enter a vibrant world where they can collect, merge, and battle unique monsters called Ragmons. Players go on their journey as Novices, exploring a world filled with mystical creatures, powerful spells, and strategic battles. This game rewards players for their time and effort, combining fun gameplay with real-world rewards.

Sky Mavis Cites Breach of Agreement

Psycheout, a representative of Sky Mavis, stated that the Ragnarok team had ignored internal advice and acted independently in signing a deal with another blockchain. He claimed this move breached their existing agreement with Sky Mavis, leading to a loss of support from the broader community. As a result, Sky Mavis decided to end its professional relationship with the Ragnarok team.

Within 48 hours of the announcement, Ragnarok-related assets were scheduled to be removed from Sky Mavis platforms, including associated NFT collections. However, these collections would still be available on external Ronin-based marketplaces. The termination also meant that Ragnarok would no longer receive promotional support, nor would it benefit from previous collaborations. Additionally, Sky Mavis confirmed it would not support the launch of the ZENY token, a digital asset tied to the Ragnarok ecosystem.

Criticism from Sky Mavis Leadership

Jihoz, another leading figure at Sky Mavis, provided further commentary. He criticized the Ragnarok project for initially pursuing a web2 approach contrary to Sky Mavis's recommendation. Jihoz stated that the attempt to shift back to web3 was poorly executed and failed to offer meaningful innovation. He characterized the game as a basic replica of existing titles, noting limited integration of NFT mechanics and overall lack of distinctiveness.

These remarks added to the growing tension between the two parties and sparked debate within the community. Some players and investors voiced concerns about the abrupt change in sentiment toward the game, particularly given the financial involvement of users within the ecosystem.

Response from Ragnarok Monster World

In response to the statements from Sky Mavis, the Ragnarok Monster World team issued its own clarification. They denied the existence of any secret agreement that would have violated their contractual obligations. The developers maintained that all agreements were honored, and discussions regarding hosting a Token Generation Event outside of Ronin had been initiated by Sky Mavis themselves. The team asserted that their actions were in full compliance with the terms of the partnership.

Community Impact and Ongoing Uncertainty

The situation has left the game's community in a state of uncertainty. The removal of official support from Sky Mavis, combined with public criticism from its leadership, has had a notable impact on player sentiment and investor confidence. As users of blockchain-based platforms are often directly involved financially, changes in partnerships and platform alignment can have significant consequences.

At this stage, it remains unclear which party bears responsibility for the breakdown in communication and trust. The dispute highlights the challenges of managing collaborative efforts in the web3 gaming space, where decentralized infrastructure, user investment, and strategic alignment are closely intertwined. For now, the community is left to assess the outcome as both sides move forward independently.
