Soneium x Animoca X Moca
Soneium is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain built by Sony and Startale Group. It runs on Optimism's Superchain tech, designed to improve scalability and interoperability. Animoca Brands is bringing Moca Network's identity platform to the chain, aiming to create a unified digital identity system for web3 apps.
The rollout starts with Anime ID, a decentralized identifier and reputation layer developed by San FranTokyo, a contributor to the Anime Foundation. This system lets users verify credentials and keep a consistent identity across decentralized apps on Soneium. Moca Network's Account, Identity, and Reputation SDK (AIR SDK) will let users create and manage embedded accounts, maintaining a single secure digital presence across platforms.

Expanding anime through blockchain technology
San FranTokyo will launch anime-themed campaigns on Soneium to bring anime fans into Sony's blockchain ecosystem. These campaigns offer new ways for fans to interact with anime content in a decentralized environment. The goal is to drive participation in the anime community while using blockchain for verifiable digital credentials.
Yat Siu, executive chairman of Animoca Brands, called the partnership a step forward for web3. He said integrating Moca Network's identity infrastructure into Soneium will improve entertainment experiences and create a more connected, secure digital ecosystem.
Sony's vision for blockchain and digital identity
Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), the team behind Soneium, was formed by Sony Group Corporation and Startale Group to explore blockchain applications. Sony's broader strategy involves developing digital tools that boost connectivity and creativity across industries. The company has long used technology to build emotional connections between people, and this partnership fits that mission by offering a platform for digital identity and cultural engagement.
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, said the collaboration with Animoca Brands will establish a foundational identity and reputation layer on Soneium. He noted that anime, one of the world's largest entertainment sectors, has major potential in blockchain ecosystems. By adding Moca Network's identity solutions, Soneium aims to create a more dynamic experience for anime fans globally.

Future expansion and cross-chain solutions
Moca Network's AIR SDK will also roll out to other blockchains, including Base and Plume. This expansion will let users tokenize different types of data and access cross-ecosystem rewards tied to a single digital identity. The plan is to build a universal digital identity framework usable across multiple blockchain platforms, giving users a consistent, secure way to interact with different web3 ecosystems.
David Taing, head of San FranTokyo, said Anime ID's integration with Soneium marks a major milestone for anime-related blockchain projects. He emphasized that working with Moca Network and Soneium will let fans and industry partners connect and participate in new digital experiences rooted in anime culture.
The partnership between Sony's Soneium blockchain and Animoca Brands highlights the growing overlap of blockchain technology, entertainment, and identity solutions. By using decentralized identifiers and secure credential verification, the collaboration aims to improve user experiences in anime, gaming, and other digital spaces, pushing forward the adoption of blockchain-based identity systems in the evolving web3 landscape.
