TaleMonster Games Secures $7 Million

TaleMonster Games, a mobile game studio, has raised $7 million in seed funding to support the development of its upcoming casual puzzle games. Founded in early 2024 by former Peak Games developers, the studio aims to introduce more depth and innovation into the casual gaming genre. The funding round was led by General Catalyst, with additional participation from A16z Speedrun, Arcadia, and Ludus Ventures.

TaleMonster Raises $7 Million

The founding team at TaleMonster includes Irem Sumer, Simay Kahraman, Berk Yasar, Emre Yanik, and Eren Saricicek. With a shared background at Peak Games, the team brings extensive experience in building and scaling mobile puzzle games. The company was established with the intent to create mobile games that reflect the evolving preferences and expectations of today's casual players.

CEO Irem Sumer believes many mobile gamers have spent the past decade engaging with similar game formats and have developed advanced skills. She argues that the industry's definition of a casual gamer needs to be updated. TaleMonster's goal is to design games that acknowledge these changes by offering gameplay that rewards skill and attention while maintaining accessible mechanics.

A New Approach to Casual Puzzle Games

TaleMonster's first title, Match Valley, was released in September 2024. The game merges match-3 gameplay with tower defense mechanics, providing a fresh take on a familiar format. Since its release, the game has demonstrated strong early engagement, with an average daily playtime of 52 minutes and a 50 percent day-one retention rate.

These figures reflect growing interest from players who are looking for mobile games that offer more complex and engaging experiences. The company sees Match Valley as the first step in a broader strategy to deliver puzzle games that evolve with their players. Rather than aiming for quick hits, TaleMonster plans to build a portfolio of titles designed for long-term engagement and frequent updates.

Use of Funding and Development Strategy

With the new funding, TaleMonster plans to accelerate the development of its current and future games. The studio will also invest in the development of reusable systems that support more efficient content delivery, personalization, and scalable design. This includes building infrastructure that allows for faster iteration and learning from player behavior.

The studio currently employs 17 people across multiple locations and intends to double the team in the coming year. The company is focused on maintaining a balanced approach that combines rapid development with attention to product quality.

Türkiye's Expanding Role in the Gaming Industry

TaleMonster Games is part of a growing number of game studios emerging from Türkiye. Following the high-profile acquisition of Peak Games by Zynga in 2020, the country has seen increased investment and interest in the gaming sector. Data from startups.watch shows there are currently 796 active game startups in Türkiye. University programs focused on game design have also contributed to the availability of skilled developers entering the workforce.

Sumer noted that gaming has become a recognized and supported career path for many in Türkiye, with families encouraging young talent to pursue roles in the industry. Despite global challenges, including changes to mobile advertising models, Turkish studios continue to adapt and grow.

A Long-Term Vision for Casual Gaming

TaleMonster's approach emphasizes building not only individual games but also a sustainable development culture. The studio seeks to create an environment where creativity and experimentation are encouraged. This approach reflects the team's belief that casual games can offer more than basic entertainment and that players are ready for experiences that evolve over time.

The company's long-term goal is to create casual games that respect players' time and offer meaningful challenges. With the support of its investors and a clear development strategy, TaleMonster aims to redefine what casual mobile games can offer in terms of depth, engagement, and longevity.
