Cathedral Studios has confirmed that The Bornless, its horror first-person shooter, is heading to Xbox after being accepted into the platform's independent developer program. The UK-based studio's game becomes one of a small number of web3 titles securing a place on the platform. AMGI's My Pet Hooligan recently made a similar move, and The Bornless now joins Off The Grid and Moonray in bringing blockchain-integrated games to console players.

About The Bornless

Set in the 1950s, The Bornless drops players into a survival horror battle royale experience where terror is a constant companion. Eight players form teams of two and fight for survival alongside Orobas, the first Demon. The catch: human opponents aren't the only threat.

After several years in development, The Bornless ran a two-day playtest called A Storm is Coming. The event pulled in players from traditional and web3 gaming communities, hitting record engagement numbers. The test introduced The Storm, a new mechanic for the game's Ritual mode, while Cathedral Studios worked on tightening up the endgame flow.

The playtest numbers show momentum building. Over 5,500 unique players participated, logging 1,063 matches total. Streams pulled 26,000 hours of watch time, and players bought 22,000 loot items during the event. The combination of player turnout and engagement points to real interest ahead of launch.

A Step Forward for Web3 Gaming

The Bornless landing on Xbox marks another console win for web3 gaming. Blockchain-integrated games are pushing beyond PC and mobile, and developers are focused on building experiences that work for both traditional players and those already comfortable with web3 mechanics.
