Valve updated Steam’s game submission requirements on November 4, 2026, as build approvals stretched to as long as 12 business days. The revised pre-release checklist targets basic technical problems that force repeat reviews and hold up game launches.

Valve’s usual review target is 3-5 days. Its Steamworks announcement describes a significant increase in store-page and game-build submissions in recent months, with repeat reviews accounting for much of the current delay.

For players waiting on a release, the approval backlog has already moved beyond an administrative problem. Studio Daimon’s Food Devils missed its planned November 3 Early Access launch while awaiting approval, despite its build having been submitted on October 12.

Wheel Make It publisher 2 Left Thumbs also described a delayed launch after minor build rejections sent the game back through the review queue.

Cubic Earth developer structmira described another cost of the wait: a trailer with more than 60,000 views and more than 6,000 wishlists, followed by player complaints accumulating on the game’s Steam Community page while approval remained pending.

Valve has also added reminders to check that features advertised on a game’s Steam store page are present in the submitted build.

Valve says further improvements to the build review process are coming. It also plans to keep expanding its pre-release checklist documentation, making those requirements easier for developers to check before their next submission.
