Bigby Wolf returns this October in The Wolf Among Us Remastered

The Wolf Among Us is finally getting its modern-day upgrade. Telltale and PM Studios confirmed at Gamescom that The Wolf Among Us Remastered hits PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC on October 29. The date had been teased since Summer Game Fest earlier this year, but this week's Gamescom trailer locked it in and brought one notable new addition: a Noir Mode.

What's actually new in the remaster

Here's the thing: this isn't just a resolution bump. The remaster brings updated visuals, refined character and environment presentation, an overhauled UI, upgraded animation, improved audio, and smoother performance across the board. The original game's cel-shaded art style is still intact, just sharpened and rebuilt for current hardware.

The biggest addition is Noir Mode, which strips the game's color palette down to monochrome. It's a genuinely fitting choice. The Wolf Among Us has always leaned hard into noir detective fiction, with Bigby Wolf playing the morally complicated sheriff investigating a murder in Fabletown, a hidden community of fairy tale characters living in 1980s Manhattan. Dropping the color makes the whole thing feel like a classic detective film, and it's an easy toggle if you want to switch back.

tip
The Wolf Among Us Remastered also includes more than an hour of bonus content, covering cast interviews, playable deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes material from the original 2013-2014 production.

The remaster also consolidates the original episodic structure into a single product. The five episodes, Faith, Smoke & Mirrors, A Crooked Mile, In Sheep's Clothing, and Cry Wolf, all come packaged together. No waiting between releases, no episodic cliffhangers without resolution. You can play straight through.

The Fables connection and why the story still holds up

The game is based on Bill Willingham's Eisner Award-winning Fables comic series. Bigby is the Sheriff of Fabletown, tasked with keeping the peace among fairy tale creatures who've fled their homelands and are living in secret among regular humans. A murder case at the start of episode one pulls him into something much larger, and the player's choices throughout shape how Bigby handles suspects, allies, and the people depending on him.

What made the original stand out wasn't just the premise. It was how much the choices felt weighted. Interrogation scenes, confrontations, and moral calls all carry consequences that ripple through the remaining episodes. The writing was sharp in 2013, and the story hasn't aged badly.

The bigger picture: Wolf Among Us 2 is coming in 2027

The remaster isn't happening in a vacuum. The Wolf Among Us 2 received a 2027 launch window at Summer Game Fest, and this remaster is clearly designed to bring new players up to speed before the sequel arrives. For anyone who missed the original or played it back in 2013 and 2014 across multiple devices with no clean way to revisit it, the remaster is the obvious entry point.

The timing makes sense. A polished, complete version of the first game in late October sets up the audience before the sequel's release window. Players who want to get familiar with Bigby, Fabletown, and the choice system before Wolf Among Us 2 have a clear path now.
