Xbox is getting its own version of the Platinum trophy, and new details paint a pretty clear picture of how the Mythic Achievement will actually work when it arrives.
The story has been building for a few days. A leak first surfaced the Mythic Achievement as a new category sitting above regular achievements, then the Xbox PC app quietly revealed the symbol and its unlock sound. Now a fuller picture of the feature's mechanics has emerged, and it lines up closely with what PlayStation players have had for years.
What the Mythic Achievement actually is
The core mechanic is straightforward: unlock every achievement in a game and you earn the Mythic Achievement for that title. That's the same formula as Sony's Platinum trophy, and Xbox isn't reinventing anything here. What matters is the execution and the specifics.
Here's the thing though, DLC and title update achievements are excluded from the Mythic requirement. So you won't need to chase down every post-launch content drop to hit that completion marker, which is a notable difference from how some PlayStation Platinums handle DLC trophies. That alone makes it feel slightly more accessible for games with heavy ongoing content.
The Mythic Achievement also carries zero Gamerscore. None. It's a prestige marker, not a point booster, which keeps the existing Gamerscore system intact without inflating numbers.
Retroactive support and profile changes
This is the part that will get longtime Xbox players excited. Once the update rolls out, the Mythic Achievement will be retroactively available for every game that already has achievements. That means players who have already 100-percented their library could wake up to a stack of Mythics waiting for them on day one.
Profile pages are getting a visual overhaul alongside the feature. The Gaming Tab header will display expanded stats, including total Gamerscore, total achievements, and a running count of Mythics earned. Games where you've earned a Mythic will get a distinct visual treatment in the Gaming Tab: a green star, laurel wreath, and green border on the game art.
There's also a dedicated tracker on each game's achievements page, so you can see exactly how far you are from earning the Mythic for any specific title. If you're the type who monitors completion percentages obsessively, that feature alone is going to get a lot of use.
When is it coming?
The rollout is expected to happen soon, with Xbox Insiders likely getting access first before a broader release. No hard date has been confirmed, but the feature appears to be close given how much detail has surfaced about its mechanics and UI changes.
For players who already track completions seriously, this formalizes something the community has been doing manually for years. If you want to get ahead of the curve and sharpen your completion habits now, check out achievement and trophy guides like the Atomic Heart Blood on Crystal achievements guide or the Crimson Moon trophy list to see what thorough completion tracking looks like in practice.
What most players miss is that the retroactive nature of this feature means preparation starts now. Any game you've been sitting at 90% completion on is worth finishing before the update drops. When Mythic Achievements go live, those completions will count immediately.
