Microsoft has spent almost two decades watching PlayStation hand out Platinum Trophies while Xbox completionists got nothing but a slightly higher Gamerscore number. That changes now. The Mythic Achievement is Xbox's official answer to the Platinum, and the details that have surfaced paint a pretty clear picture of how the whole thing works.
The timing is tight. "Before the end of September" was the rollout window floating around Xbox Insider circles, and today is September 29. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the underlying system is clearly ready: the Mythic Achievement unlock animation was already spotted inside the latest preview build of Game Bar by Xbox Collection Tracker account XCT.live, which posted the animation on September 26.
How the Mythic Achievement actually works
The rule is straightforward. Earn every available Gamerscore point in a game's base list and the Mythic Achievement drops automatically. There's no separate unlock condition, no secret requirement. The moment your last missing achievement pops, the Mythic follows it.
Here's the thing about DLC: it doesn't count. Just like PlayStation keeps DLC trophy lists separate from the base game's Platinum, Xbox is doing the same. DLC achievements sit in their own list, they boost your total Gamerscore, and you can absolutely 100% them, but they don't contribute to or block the Mythic Achievement for the main game.
The retroactive unlock is the detail that will matter most to long-time completionists. Any game where you already have full Gamerscore will retroactively award the Mythic Achievement. If you've been grinding completions for years, that could mean a significant queue of animations waiting for you on first launch. Worth being prepared for that.
What the unlock animation looks like
The animation spotted in the Game Bar preview build is notably more involved than a standard achievement pop-up. It's a dedicated, longer notification with sparkle effects, sound design, and a visual acknowledgment of the specific game you just completed. Think of it less like a standard achievement toast and more like a small ceremony.
Whether the final public version matches what leaked from the preview build exactly isn't confirmed, but the XCT.live footage is widely considered to reflect the near-final state of the feature. The fact that it showed up in a Game Bar preview build this late in September strongly suggests the rollout is imminent.
For players who've been chasing completions across dozens of games, this is genuinely satisfying news. Achievement hunting on Xbox has always had the mechanical depth, the Gamerscore system, the tracking tools, the community around it. What it lacked was a visual trophy to put on the shelf. The Mythic Achievement fills that gap. If you want to see what dedicated achievement hunting looks like in practice, our Atomic Heart Blood on Crystal achievements guide covers every unlock in that DLC including all 11 figurine locations.
The broader picture for Xbox completionists
This announcement matters because it signals Microsoft is paying attention to the completionist community in a way it hasn't bothered to for most of Xbox's history. Gamerscore has always been the backbone of Xbox's achievement identity, but it never had a finish line. Now it does, game by game.
The rollout is expected to hit Xbox Insiders first before a wider release. If you're not in the Insider program and want early access, that's the path in. For everyone else, the wait should be short.
