Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Switch 2 Edition Drops Overview Trailer

The Nintendo eShop listings for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition are now live, and they've given fans the first concrete storage number to plan around: an estimated 45.8 GB. The game drops on July 30, 2026, meaning you have a few days to free up some space on that microSD card.

Why 45.8 GB is a significant jump

To put that number in context, the original Switch version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sits at around 13.7 GB. The Switch 2 Edition is more than three times that size. That's a substantial leap, and it reflects exactly what Monolith Soft is delivering with this upgrade: 4K resolution support, 60fps gameplay, and a suite of new content that simply wasn't present in the 2017 release.

Nintendo has noted the file size is subject to change before and after launch, so the final download could land slightly higher or lower. That caveat is standard for eShop listings at this stage, but 45.8 GB gives you a solid baseline for storage planning.

important
Both a standalone version and an upgrade path for existing owners are available on the Nintendo eShop. If you already own the original Switch version, you won't need to repurchase the full game to access the Switch 2 Edition content.

What the Switch 2 Edition actually adds

The file size increase makes more sense when you look at what's packed in. The Switch 2 overview trailer that dropped on July 24 confirmed new outfits for Pyra and Mythra, an overhauled Merc Assault system, and a new character named Momo joining the roster. Pair that with the resolution and framerate improvements, and this is a meaningfully expanded version of the game rather than a simple resolution bump.

The key here is that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was already one of the more content-dense RPGs on the original Switch. Adding new story and system content on top of visual upgrades naturally inflates the package considerably. For comparison, the recently released Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Switch 2 upgrade was handled with assistance from external developer Logicalbeat, and the second game is arriving on similar terms with what appears to be an equally thorough overhaul.

Storage planning before July 30

At 45.8 GB, this is one of the larger Switch 2 titles on the horizon. Final Fantasy XIV Online for Switch 2, launching August 4, is another storage-hungry release incoming shortly after. If you're planning to grab both digitally, you'll want to audit your available space sooner rather than later.

For players picking up the physical version, it's worth checking whether the full game is on the cart or if a download portion is required. That distinction matters more than ever at file sizes this large.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition arrives July 30. You can find the standalone listing and the upgrade option directly on the Nintendo eShop now. For broader Switch 2 release planning and gaming guides covering upcoming titles, keep an eye on what's dropping across the rest of the summer lineup.
