YouTube Premium Adding Free Peacock Subscription for US Users

"With this agreement, Peacock accelerates its next phase of growth by bringing the service to millions of YouTube Premium subscribers, driving long-term value for our business," said Matt Strauss, Chairman of Media Group at NBCUniversal. That quote pretty much sums up what's happening here: two of the bigger names in streaming are linking arms, and subscribers are the ones who benefit.

What the deal actually includes

YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States will get access to Peacock's ad-supported Premium tier bundled into their existing subscription at no additional charge. That means films like Obsession and Minions, TV shows like Ted and Twisted Metal, and live sports coverage including NFL and NBA games all become accessible through a single subscription.

Peacock's standalone ad-supported Premium plan normally runs $10.99 per month. YouTube Premium sits at $15.99 per month. If the pricing holds, subscribers are effectively getting nearly $11 worth of streaming value on top of what they already pay. For sports fans especially, that's a meaningful addition given Peacock's live NFL and NBA rights.

The timing and what to expect

There's no firm launch date pinned down yet. The bundle is targeting early 2027 for US subscribers, so there's still some runway before it goes live. The deal was confirmed as part of a broader push by NBCUniversal to expand Peacock's subscriber base through third-party distribution rather than relying solely on direct sign-ups.

tip
The Peacock tier included is the ad-supported Premium plan, not the ad-free Premium Plus tier. You will still see ads on Peacock content through this bundle.

The Game Pass comparison worth paying attention to

Here's the thing: history suggests these kinds of value expansions don't always stay free forever. Xbox added Call of Duty to Game Pass as a major selling point after the Activision Blizzard acquisition, and for roughly two years it held the line on pricing. Then Microsoft pulled Call of Duty from day-one Game Pass availability and simultaneously dropped the subscription price, effectively restructuring the value proposition entirely.

The pattern is familiar. Bundle in high-value content, grow the subscriber base, then adjust pricing once the audience is locked in. Whether YouTube Premium follows the same playbook remains an open question, but it's worth keeping in mind if you're planning your subscription budget around this deal.

For now, $15.99 is the number. No announced changes, no confirmed price hike. But the precedent exists.

Why this matters beyond the price tag

Streaming bundles have become one of the primary battlegrounds for subscriber retention. Disney has been doing it with Hulu and ESPN+. Apple bundles TV+ with other services. The logic is straightforward: the more content anchored to a single subscription, the harder it is for users to cancel.

For gamers specifically, Peacock's sports rights are the headline draw. NFL Sunday Night Football, NBA playoff games, and Premier League coverage all sit behind the Peacock paywall. If you're already paying for YouTube Premium to skip ads on gaming content and YouTube TV highlights, getting live sports access layered in is a genuine upgrade.

If you're managing multiple gaming subscriptions and want to make smarter calls on what's worth paying for, our gaming guides cover everything from battle pass value breakdowns to free-to-play progression systems. Speaking of which, if you're weighing whether a gaming subscription is worth the cost, the Pokémon Champions Battle Pass and Membership guide is a good example of how to think through tiered subscription value.

The YouTube Premium and Peacock bundle rolls out in the US in early 2027. Keep an eye on your YouTube account settings for activation details when it goes live. And if you're looking to squeeze value out of free in-game rewards in the meantime, the PUBG Mobile redeem codes guide is worth bookmarking.
