Introduction

Cyberpunk games usually put a gun in your hand. Nivalis Nights hands you a ladle instead. ION LANDS' slice-of-life simulation drops you into a city under CorpSec lockdown and asks a simple question: how do you build an empire when all you have is a noodle stand and enough ambition to outlast everyone around you?

Overview

Nivalis Nights is a cyberpunk life simulation RPG from ION LANDS, published by 505 Games, set in the sprawling vertical city of Nivalis. The city stretches from the ocean floor to the clouds, and its lowest districts are currently caught between CorpSec crackdowns and an active serial killer loose in the streets. Your starting position: a humble noodle stand. Your goal: own the best restaurants and nightclubs in the city.

The game runs on a daily structure where every in-game day presents a genuine fork in the road. Spend it managing your business, farming ingredients, building relationships with the city's residents, or slipping past security systems after curfew to sabotage a competitor's operation. The choice shapes how your story unfolds, and the city responds to what you do with your time.

Gameplay and mechanics

The business management loop sits at the core of Nivalis Nights. Players start with a small food operation and scale up to full restaurants and nightclubs by managing supply chains, buying or personally growing ingredients, and keeping customers satisfied. Key mechanics at a glance:

  • Run restaurants, ramen bars, and nightclubs
  • Grow or source your own ingredients
  • Sabotage rivals during curfew hours
  • Explore Nivalis by personal boat
  • Compete in a cyberpunk chess tournament

The sabotage system adds a sharp edge to what could otherwise be a cozy sim. Sneaking past security systems under curfew to undercut a rival feels genuinely tense, but the game is clear that the same tactics can be used against you. Every dirty move carries risk.

What makes Nivalis Nights different from other life sims?

Most life simulation games lean heavily on pastoral settings and low-stakes social loops. Nivalis Nights does the opposite. The cyberpunk city setting creates persistent background pressure through the CorpSec presence and the serial killer subplot, giving the slice-of-life format an unusual sense of danger that never fully lets up. Building friendships and decorating apartments feels different when the city outside your window is genuinely hostile.

The relationship system goes beyond surface-level NPC interaction. Every character in Nivalis has their own story, and managing those relationships, whether as friendships, rivalries, or something closer, affects how the city responds to you. The home customization system extends this personal investment further, letting players decorate their own spaces or help outfit apartments for people they've built connections with.

World and setting

Nivalis itself is the game's most distinctive asset. ION LANDS built the city as the setting for their earlier game Cloudpunk, and Nivalis Nights brings that same world down to street level with a day-night cycle, a realistic weather system, and a city dense enough to warrant owning a boat to get around properly. The neon aesthetic is consistent without being shallow, and the vertical scale of the city gives exploration a genuine sense of geography.

Fishing off the docks, navigating rain-slicked canals by boat, and watching the city shift under different weather conditions give Nivalis Nights its texture. The simulation layer runs deep enough that the city feels like a place rather than a backdrop, which is exactly what this kind of RPG needs to land its slower, relationship-driven moments alongside its more competitive business management gameplay.
